I think the reason that channel 9 is scheduling the Tigers v Titans game first in Sydney is that the Tigers are a Sydney-based team and as such will likely attract a bigger TV audience in Sydney than two non-Sydney teams.

Canberra. (Else Broncos 1-14 !!) Many may be fully aware of Raiders kill this year – St George (twice), Penrith, Gold Coast, Manly, Warriors, and Brisbane. Putting the Broncos to the sword a second time may not be such a bridge too far.
Gold Coast. The Tigers biggest problem in recent years has been that they have looked a bit “patched up” through injuries. Players often playing out of position and not really working out. This year that has all changed, injuries not such a problem until now that is – Lawrence, Gibbs, Fulton, McKinnon, Daniela- the Tiges are looking a bit patched up again.
New Zealand. There are the Burts, Hindmarshs, and Reddys of this team that will give their all for the Blue & Gold in the hope of giving Cayless a grand send-off (hopefully not of the Petero ilk) On the other hand there are plenty who play out of self-interest and will realise this game shouldn’t mean too much for them personally – so why try so hard?
Sydney City. I do see this as a danger game. A long way to travel for a team thats finals finishing position still hangs on a knife edge. Cowboys could rally one last ambush, although running out of bullets could pose a problem.
Penrith. No Petero and fair enough. Others have done worse for less or no suspension. Justice could be one word to describe the outcome of the game last week. Penrith will work hard now to unleash a fresh Petero in week 2 or 3 (if they happen to earn a rest)
Melbourne. Storm to show how good they have been at salary-cap cheating the last few years. Can anyone believe that Inglis, Finch, and Manu were rested last week only to fall to the Tigers ?? Give us a break. These guys are back this w/end so they will probably turn up.
Manly. Too much against the Bulldogs in this one – including their own players who have favoured greed over winning the game.
St George. A traditional warm up for the semis. Last year was 37-0 or something ?? against Parra. Desperate to go into the semis with form – although in doing so, they will play Souths out of 8th spot, and have to welcome Canberra in week 1.

Fair point Obi and was a good game but the Raiders are the Eels of 2010, late run, great fullback. I hope they make the GF. It was the game I would have chosen first but Tigers/Titans was entertaining.
As for the Tigers, they did themselves no favours. Lui’s hit on Bird warranted a penalty but Lote was unlucky with the one awarded against him a few rucks earlier. But the Tigers’ handling and options (especially in the first half) were woeful. If they had completed sets and did the little things right then they may have got way with the points. I hope they smarten up next week.

It has been a perfect weekend.
No, I’m not just referring to my curiously accurate tips for this week.
And no, I’m not just referring to the Panthers who are running hot at the right time – and happy to have the support of noone out there but their own fans and themselves.
No, it’s not just these two indicators blinking away.
Twas 12:38am this morning when our first child arrived, 40 weeks to the day, a little girl named Rosalie – and one day shy of Father’s Day.
It has been a perfect weekend.

Wow! Congrats MB! That is most excellent news. And welcome to the world Rosalie, the Panthers’ newest supporter.
A special Fathers’ Day I bet.

If the mother had her way, the females of this family would be both Dragons. Up to me, I would let the young one make her own judgment on this strange-ruled-game & on who/if she follows. Equally happy to see a third set of colours around. I do fear a tense month coming up in footy terms, though these fears may be false ones if you are a non-believer in the Mcintyre system like me. The top 2 teams rarely meet in the big one do they. It has happened, but more like the exception than the rule.

I do love trivia stats. The last time the Brisbane Broncos were not playing in September, Penrith were. That’s only happened for the second time now. Penrith won the premiership the first of these times back in ’91. Penrith played Canberra in the Grand Final. There is a chance that these things could happen again. Not a likelihood, but in saying this, my adage is quite the opposite to that held by the Finns of Split Enz ( I tell myself, before I go to sleep)

As I write as dejected Bismark is returning from Kograh having seen Souths reject their finals hopes with a pretty average performance. But even with four key players out, the Dragons showed that Soward is not the team.
The Dragons surely must win the premiership this season. They are the complete side. But I’m sure other sides will have their say.
And in case anyone is wondering next week looks as follows:
Friday – Titans v Warriors, Skilled Park
Saturday – Tigers v Roosters, SFS
Saturday – Panthers v Raiders, CUA Stadium
Sunday – Dragons v Manly, Oki Jubilee

Shaun, two things
1/ Do you remember how St George finished the regular season last year? – like champions if I recall; and
2/ Although they seem destined for a week’s rest this time around, let’s not pre-empt how the Dragons will play come finals time. (What sort of history are we basing this one on?)
