St George-Illawarra v Manly, Monday 7:00pm, WIN Jubilee Oval
As much as I enjoyed seeing Tony Wiliams running over Billy Slater last week, I hoping the Dragons are back as the Eels need Manly to lose to have a hope. Of course, a Manly loss may not even be enough by Monday night and it will be academic. If that is the case I hope someone decides to remind Darius Boyd that league is a contact sport and it is a bit much to take exception to being tackled all the time.

You are truly a sad pathetic man Shaun.
All home teams except the Roosters.
The cowboys are paying $5.00! Think I’ll have a lazy fiver on them.

Broncos. I know it’s not Fui’s fault he was let off without even a slap on the wrist, possibly more to do with a judiciary that can always be won over, if a QC turns up at the hearing. Still, there’s more than a little negative energy flowing over Parra at the moment over it all (and overshadowing the Broncos salarycap)
Cronulla. Yet another twist in the season of who’s the flavour of the month. After this one, the Roosters may not be as tasty as they have been.
Gold Coast. The biggest mismatch this week although the Cowboys have surprisingly done better this year without Thurston.
Canterbury. Canberra the more in-form team here, but maybe the 5-day turnaround might be a factor. No yobbo fans on a hill baying for penalties this time wont help their cause either.
New Zealand. The warriors are sneaking under that radar. Sneak into the top 4 in the next couple of weeks, and people will start saying -”where did ‘they’ come from?”
Melbourne. Souths are a bit of a busted unit at the moment. Won’t help playing down in Storm territory where Souths won’t get any crowd penalties like they do up here.
Penrith. Will Benji finally break his 8-year career hoodoo and finally win a game against Penrith? I know one thing for sure – he knows this stat, and you only need to look at his goal-kicking to know he second-guesses himself. Should that be a concern? I’ll say yes.
St George. The Dragons are within two wins of another minor premiership – only one game to go after this one. Win the next two weeks and they can’t be caught. That could pose it’s own problem of how/or who to play the final two rounds of the comp. The demons could be in their head two weeks early. Oh well. Wouldn’t be the same without the old Dragons Vs Demons

Ah, hope. Tonight was the good hope as the Eels played their guts out for Caylo and the late Norm Sivyer.
Very impressed with the Eels’ forward. They all hit the line hard and did their jobs. Hindy lost his pants about four times and causing injury to the viewers at home.
I don’t think Hayne was as quiet as Gus kept complaining about. Hayne was letting the other players do their jobs and they did.
Now, the Bulldogs, Panthers, Knights and Storm to win to help the Eels.

Was a good win Shaun. Agree Gus has packed into one too many a scrum – have thought so for some time. I still regard (of course) the greatest enigma of the game, Brandy Alexander. His job was never to run the show for 80 minutes, although occasionally he did – but moreso to pop up when needed and dazzle with pure brilliance – a lot like Hayne is doing now. Different players but similar – if that makes sense ??!!
Don’t need results going your way, Shaun. You see, once one of the teams tied for 8th loses, and Parra did that for the Broncos, then the 8th score can’t move from 26 this week – whatever happens.
With so many teams tied like this, you may see it happen again next week, for just one team tied for 8th to lose, and the 8 stays at 26.
My guess is the 8th team needs 30, but if that is Parra, they need to finish with a positive for-and-against. Even these 16-point wins won’t do it.
Mortimer to get another week’s “rest”? People will start thinking he has chronic fatigue syndrome.
Hoping the Sharks go off the boil in a few weeks at CUA!! They looked rock solid in defence tonight, and even started to get some attacking structure going by the end of the game. Roosters threw all they had at them. Noone can say they underperformed. Interesting comp this year.

The Tigers showed they were by far the more desperate football team today. They showed this sign well before kick-off. Bribery with a capital B. The choice of currency, the little sick kid. Nothing plants a seed in the officials heads more than the little sick kid. By no means am I taking aim at a child who is suffering and only wish is for their footy team to win. I take aim at the clubs for their cynical manipulation of officials through the playing of the pawn, the little sick kid. I hope and trust that Penrith don’t need to play a matching pawn in the next few weeks. God knows there’s a whole Nepean Hospital to choose from. One low act doesn’t deserve another.

You are right MB. I heard that the vid refs were blubbering messes after seeing the young fella come out before the game. They didn’t want to push the green button but what choice did they have?
It is an insidious influence and one the Dragons used well to their advantage tonight. Judging by some of the calls, not only did they parade a ward full of sick kiddies before the game but some injured kittens and puppies as well. Harrigan was obviously so overcome that he had no idea what he was doing.

Little birdie time – JT for the Eels next year…. or is that old news?
Shaun // Aug 19, 2010 at 10:46 pm
Old news. Apparently the Eels board chairman has confirmed Ando will be the Eels coach next year.
