Manly v Wests Sunday 3:00pm, Bluetongue Stadium

A game I'm very much looking forward to as I'll be at this one. This is Manly's season defining game. A loss and they'll be hard pressed to make the finals. The Tigers are comfortable but need to keep winning to ensure a top four spot. Order Super Antiox GSE online no prescription, If it is a tight game, that could concern the Tigers given Benji's recent lack of success with the boot. But Benji is a bit like Jarryd. A very good game for a Monday. After a rough start you would have to consider the Broncos the more solid side at this stage. Doggies.
I changed my mind a couple of times, but I can see the likes of Hannant and Ennis being in Hayne’s face a bit earlier and more than often than the Panthers were last week.

    Red V’s.
We thought that against Penrith the forward passes would not be winning them games any more. We saw against Souths last week that was an aberration and forward passes are back winning them games again. Will they get pulled up this time? Chances are low.

    Sharkies.
There is a strange phenomena that says when a team sacks a coach, they win their next game. No other reason but the phenomena.

    Pennies.
A team that has thrilled for most of the season, is outplayed for one half of a football match, and all those who think they know their stuff say Penrith are on the slide. This week to show a fair bit of the opposite.

    Newie.
The Cowboys have been playing as if coached by Paul Briggs. Falling down like nine-pins with the suspicion of making money on the side. I can’t follow a team that plays like that.

    Rabbits.
The pattern. A loss to the Dragons last week means one thing – a win this week.

    Tiges.
Changed my mind here too. The pendulum swung when I saw Shane Hayne was in charge. He will be very wary of overpenalising the visitors this time. He will show he is so fair, that Manly will cop a hiding.

    Broncs.
The babies are growing up fast and penalty pulling Sam French-Fraiday to be at his piggy-backing best.

Another strange phenomenon re: the Sharks game…Cronulla has the longest current win streak over the Raiders at Canberra Stadium (5 games). The Storm owned Canberra for years but could only get to 7 consecutive wins in Canberra.

So Cronulla has the new coach plus the heavy loss potential bounce back while Canberra has the heavy win bounce back. This might be why Cronulla is a small chance with the bookies rather than no chance at all.

Well done Parra but let’s hope to christ it’s not a Parra – St George grand final. You wouldn’t see much footy played in between the Dragons 14 milked penalties, and Parra’s 12. It’s just not in the spirit of the game (the oval ball game anyway), and it’s not great viewing. The crap that went on spoilt a great effort. If they think they need to win that bad, then give them the trophy now so we can all go play hopscotch.

Interesting to see the effect the Storms ‘nil-points’ thing effects the run up to the finals.

Take for example, the Bunnies (who I’ll be cheering on tomorrow at ANZ with Gnasher).

It don’t matter how many games they win from here on in – if the teams directly above them win as well which, obviously, is more likely than not, it aint going to do them a scrap of good.

The exception this year is that the Storm are very capable of upsetting top 8 clubs but won’t be in the running so they don’t take up a berth.

Granted, all the 8-ish teams have the same chance this year but the movement in and out of the 8 + the position within the 8 should be a bit more ‘fluid’ than usual.

Any chance of popping your “vs top or bottom eight” stats for the rest of the season up again MB? I’m sure you have it to hand!

    Cheers

The Storm have the Raiders, Sea Eagles, Rabbitohs, Sharks, Tigers and Knights in the run home.

The Raiders are mathematical chances but unlikley. The Sea Eagles and Rabbitohs games are vital for the fortunes of both teams.

Btw, I was playing around with the NRL ladder predictor and I had 4-7 finishing on the same points. For and against could be very import this year.

A wonderful late winter’s afternoon with a dash of spring this afternoon. 20,000 crammed into Bluetongue and all in full voice. A fantastic day out.

Pity the result but Manly took their chances and the Tigers rued their handling and Benji’s goalkicking. It really is becoming a liability.

Admittedly, some of the kick’s were from difficult angles. But I had a good look at him during his first kick for the second half and the body language was woeful. He either needs to find a way out of this kicking malaise or give it over to someone else. Failure to fix this could cost the Tigers a finals game or even a finals spot.

There are more than a few punters out there gone broke taking my tips. I think I am near last in the tipping stakes and yet again, my entry fee purely a donation to the winner. The idea from here on is to bet on the exact opposite to my tips – so I best tip against Penrith for the next half dozen rounds.

Amazingly close competition with Penrith losing three in a row and fall from equal leader to just 2nd place. Sure, they can’t afford to keep losing, although who knows? Teams immediately below are equally as inconsistent, and teams on the charge are needing to sustain long, long winning streaks which history ‘remains’ against ending in a premiership.

BOM – Penrith’s last three losses, all to teams who were not in the 8 at the time, tells that all games are important, and that games against teams not in the 8 are not always easier to win. Next week at home to the Cowboys, so another win that’s meant to be in the bag, but I know as well as the team, that nothing gets taken for granted from here on in. I’m a believer that you learn a lot more from a loss than you do from a win – so we’ve been learning quite a bit lately. I’m hoping it’s a blessing in disguise.

PS – that one game I tipped right this week was the pattern game. Souths go down to the Saints, but then do the opposite and win the next week. There must be some shrewd punters out there who are richer than their wildest dreams following the pattern I found this year without the help of Dr Robert Langdon.

Warriors v Titans next week. Warriors with the pattern on their side – any chance ?

Don’t worry MB. I’m about 4th last in work’s tipping comp so I know who you feel.

Changing the subject, I wore my Eels jumper (well one of the them) to the game today. There were taunts from Manly fans, what the fucks from Tigers fans and a whole lotta Eels fans shouting “Go the Eels” as I wandered by. Loved it.

    he he !

Thanks both for your insightful, as usual, commentary this week. I’m not a believer in patterns but remain to be swayed. There’s only one real pattern : when I follow a pattern and put money on a game, the pattern will be broken. … or is that a pattern too? My head hurts.

Great day at ANZ but worried about Coaltrain who shot off up the tunnel with a buggered shoulder toward the end of the game. We all cheered him off and he waved thanks with his buggered arm!

Shame about the Tigers. I was watching Benj at Leichhardt last week Shaun and noticed the same thing – all out of shape and awkward.. I kept yelling at Lote to take the ball off him.

BOM from a golfer’s perspective I can see where Benji’s goalkicking is all going wrong.

Lots of practice isn’t going to help him any more than the guy with the flawed golf swing isn’t going to improve simply by hitting bucket after bucket at the driving range.

I could offer him about 15 seconds of advice which would magically turn his kicking good. But I’m not going to. (insert sound of raspberry here)
