The Warriors had fun last weekend but the Panthers won't be so accommodating as the Eels were. In fact, with the Dragons receiving a bye this week expect the Panthers to be going all out for a win, order Zantac online no prescription. Indeed, the Panthers have been rather sneaking in moving into second place. Not much fanfare, just good old fashioned getting the job done. Which they will do again this week.
Parramatta v North Queensland, Monday 7:00pm, Parramatta Stadium
This game will answer the question of whether the Eels have a hope or that 2010 is going to be a season to forget. Order Zantac online no prescription, There were glimpses last night of Hayne at his best and if he can bring that back to club level then the Eels need to have a chance. But the other backs need to step up. The Cowboys have some major defensive issues and if the Eels can get their second phase play going then they may turn their fortunes around. A loss though will see the Eels faithful wondering about next season.
The Sure Thing: Manly
The Roughy: Given the way the Eels have been playing try the Cowboys.

Yes, Shaun you have pre-empted well. I was going to keep this one under wraps but I guess I should copyright it before it goes viral. I would love post-round 26 to be able to say the Panthers are going for “The Triple-Double”.
1991 “The Double”
2003 “The Double-Double”
2010 “The Triple-Double” (c)
Wests Tigers
A great game to gauge teams 3 and 4. Last week’s game in the wet, where the Tigers made a zillion schoolboy mistakes and still got the win was a good thing for them. It means they have plenty of improvement left. Sheens also made a great example of Fifita by necking him after a play the ball error. Players will be mindful now of concentrating for the 80. Watch out Titans.
Sydney Roosters
A home game for both teams and also a great gauge for two teams that want to lay claim to a top4 spot. I reckon the best two Friday night game combos for interests sake this year. (Thank God for byes ie. no Dragons or Broncos) Don’t really have a lot of theory about this one, just a hunch.
Canberra Raiders
Manly have certainly shown this year they are not the Manly of ’07 or ’08. Canberra I see as the enigmatic team of the comp. Can play with absolute brilliance one week, and not sighted the next. Must be time for a brilliant one then, huh?
Melbourne Storm
Look I keep saying it, but when a team only has fun to play for, they then have far more chance of playing at their best than anything else. Bulldogs are going ok, but they are under pressure. They must win. Unlike the Storm.
Cronulla Sharks
Please note: This tip was selected before seeing Shaun’s Newcastle tip.
Two frustrated teams facing off and I think the team under the less pressure is the one that’s not carrying the weight of expectation of the home crowd.
Penrith
The pattern remains super strong, but Penrith are just the team to break it. For those that haven’t been following, look how religiously in 2010 a team loses to the Dragons but then wins their next game. The only teams that have failed to win after a loss to the Dragons are the Sharks and the Bulldogs (and they were both losses to Penrith). The pattern is also working in the opposite direction with the team that wins against the Dragons, losing the next week. So far, Canberra is the only team that has won the week after beating the Dragons, and Penrith to try and equal that feat here and continue bucking the pattern trend.
Parramatta
Anyone notice J. Hayne doing his circus tricks again Wednesday night? I read that as an indication Anderson is the one backing down between these two. Hayne is going to get his way and be allowed to play the way he wants to play, ie. without a coach calling his shots for him. Eels need to win 6 out of the remaining 9, but after this one I think it will then be only 5 out of 8.
Footnote: Have Panthers been a sure thing this year ? I know they didn’t even get the nod over the Sharks. Not complaining. Being out of the spotlight has it’s benefits. Wondering if it’s just that people continue to underrate them, else waiting for their bubble to suddenly burst.
Norths Tiger // Jul 9, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Sorry MB but I have another Penrith stat for you.
On 9 occasions this season, a team has won 4 games in a row, but only once has a team won 5 in a row (Brisbane v Souths). Penrith now sits on 4 in a row.
(That said, I am still tipping them, I think NZ – on 3 wins in a row – is a bit closer to a loss than Penrith is).

What a great stat in ‘stats central’ in the tele today.. it gave us an insight into what the ladder would look like if games were won by number of penalties received rather than points scored. It shows the Dragons would still be running 1st. It shows (like I keep telling people), that the Panthers would be running last. What a great stat to show how well they are doing despite the referees.
Shaun // Jul 11, 2010 at 7:35 pm
What a crazy round so far. Overall forms seems to have no real meaning, it is almost a week by week proposition.
Tomorrow night will be every interesting.
Norths Tiger // Jul 12, 2010 at 12:02 pm
MB I didn’t see that stat you mentioned, but I did see Penrith fail to get up yesterday despite a huge penalty count in their favour.
Of course, it is not right to suggest penalties reduce your chance of winning, but it’s interesting to think how it happened. Many penalties against on Monday night (when the refs both stood on the defensive line) made Penrith’s task more difficult, which left them quite flat yesterday and no amount of penalties would have helped.

While it is too early to tell if the Hayne Train is truly back, it was a welcome effort. A little concerned about the Eels clocking off in the 2nd half but credit to Thurston who did all he could to keep the Cowboys in the game.
Next Saturday, Hayne v Coote. Shaun v MB. Gonna be a big game.

Before all the armchair experts start telling how the Panthers are now 5-foot under – consider that no other team has been up to beat the Dragons and continue the form the following week, either. Canberra did win their next match after the Dragons, but after a relieving bye.
On the other hand side of this coin, only four teams so far “have” been up to beat the Dragons in the first place, and Penrith was one of those. Have a think and ask yourself, was your team up for that one? Chances are, your answer is , No.
When it matters the most in September and beyond, the thing is about being up for the big games. I feel good about Penrith (as a team)being mentally up for the biggest game of their season last week, and not so down-hearted for not being up the week after. (Like I say, at least they showed the mental ability to be up in the first place).
Of course, there’s that pattern which seems to run as true as the Eyre Highway runs across the Nullabor, so what chance were they all things considered.
I will put my money where my mouth is this week and have a nibble at some Panther futures. Best time to buy shares being when the market says sell.
Parra are a great chance next week if the uncoached Hayne turns up. Even better if his namesake shows. Confused as to where Pritchard was yesterday. Not on any injured list. Maybe a mistake in hindsight to rest a guy that really sparks the team. Guessing he will be back this week though.
Mountain Boy // Jul 12, 2010 at 11:41 pm
NT – you can’t not know about the pattern. Check the hyperlink called archives.
We’ll see some more guides in the coming weeks – Penrith have just played the Dragons and then the Warriors. Souths to play Dragons and then the Warriors, Titans then play the Dragons ..and then the Warriors. Let’s see if either of these two are up for the two weeks.
