After round one…

March 16th, 2010 by Shaun · 2 Comments

…we can see that St George have kept their relentless powerful mistake free footy. It will serve them well again during the regular season rounds. After that?

The Eels are still a little rusty but showed enough good signs (especially defence) that once they kick the cobwebs out they will be a handful.

The Broncos quickly followed by the Cowboys showed attacking flair and a disdain for defence. I have no idea what this means for their respective seasons.

The Knights overcame both the Bulldogs and certain skeptical footy pundits. The question is how long they can ride their defiant attitude?

On the other hand, the retirement of El Magic may have revealed some issues about how the Bulldogs will adjust to life without him. The biggest one is that Doggies’ tries aren’t six points any more.

The Panthers looked the goods on Saturday. Powerful hard, running forwards running creating space for their backs. But narcolepsy hit the Mountain Men again (a familiar nightmare) for most of the second half. Time to wake up that the game is played for 80 minutes.

The Raiders found it tough and the second half fight just as much due to the Panthers’ sleep walking as Raider’s enterprise. As often as it works, “throw the ball to Campo” is still not much of game plan.

Melbourne rolled their sleeves up and did enough for the win. They will do that for most of the season and make the top four.

The Sharks tried hard as predicted but just don’t have the class to close out the better sides. It would do us all a service if they would win a few more games this year. I don’t think I can stand 26 rounds of Ricky whinging about the refs to cover up his team’s flaws.

The Warriors showed spirit but that was not enough to conquer their wont to lose away from home. Again a limited game plan (kick to the wingers) will soon be found wanting.

The Titans found it hard going for a while but losing at home is not something they are used too. How they go away from home will tell us of their prospects.

Todd Carney’s 27th attempt at NRL redemption has started with his form on fire (which is much better than a mate suffering the same fate). The Roosters will do much better this year.

It is one thing that have a might forward pack, it is another to effectively use it. Souths found that brawn is sometimes no match for Brian. Smarter play is needed.

An amazing comeback from the the Tigers showed that Marshall and Farah are ready for big seasons. But as potent as their attack is, defence is a worry.

The Sea Eagles tried to bring back the biff. They did that so well they forgot to play footy and let the Tigers back into the game. Their fortunes sinking further Brett Stewart likely to be out for a month or so.

Bring on round 2.

In the Sidelined NRL Fantasy league, IReekOfAwesomeness won the first round.

I’ve got to sort out my reserves as they let me down.

All new to me, and I see the League is like a ‘team’ we are in, rather than competing against each other (if I have it right??). If thats the case, can I share Sam McKendry, who seems to be a good young forward with much promise for Penrith – only $80k-$90k so anyway, he’s in my team.
