Canberra Raiders draw for 2010

The Raiders in 2010 will…

…do better than expected. The Raiders are always tough at home when it is icy but consistency on the road has not been on of their strong points. If they can find they key winning games away then they will challenge for the eight.

Campese and Tongue are vitally important to the Raiders and must have injury free seasons. The forward pack contains promise and if Tom Learoyd-Lahrs continues with his form from last season then the Raiders could really punch above their weight. There is the foundation of great team in Canberra and last year’s experience should serve them well. I do worry about the 7 and 9. Lack of recognised talent in these positions could limit how far the Raiders go.

Teams aren’t going to relish going down to Canberra on a cold winter’s night as per most seasons. And if they can build on their talented youngsters and start winning on the road then they will have a season that promises good times ahead.

The Raiders are $34 to win the premiership and $2.75 to make the eight.

Oops. For some reason I had “I do worry about the 6 and 9.” That should be “…the 7 and 9.” Fixed.

Canberra say goodbye to Nigel Plum and the flying Adrian Purtell – now both on the Panthers payroll – and will face their old team in Round 1. So add Nigel Plum, Kevin Kingston (sorry Shaun), Dane Laurie (if they teach him to catch) to the existing forwards – Pritchard, Waterhouse, Nathan Smith, and Masada “Yo”sefa and a handy forward pack could well be an understatement. We now also have Fittler back to help Brandy Alexander with personal coach of Luke Walsh and Wade Graham in the finer points of the craft & to sharpen up play through the backline. Who better than the ’91 premiership combo. Looking forward to previews getting up to the “P”s. (not to mention the Penrith-Parra trial Feb 20)

Segue: Would anyone be interested in a Sidelined league in the Terror’s NRL Fantasy comp? Its a bit more interesting than just tipping as you get to pick your fantasy team. I set up a private league called Sidelined (League Code 836901 – enter the code at sign up to join it). If I’m there by myself, no dramas ;-)

Welcome back MB. I hope the off season was kind to you.

Yes, the P’s will be interesting. I haven’t got that far yet so have nothing further to say.

Yes. Hello down there from up here. Twas a confusing time over Christmas which saw us say our last goodbyes to a close friend of the wife. Age 27 taken by MS. Soon after to find out we are expecting our first child. Eerily possibly only a couple of days pregnant at the friend’s goodbye. Did one lost life make way for a new one here? Of course – who knows the answer, but we are happy to think so. Anyway, looks like timing could not be better – due in early September, just in time for Father’s Day (and home for the final series!!). Genius.

Glad to hear some great joy after the sadness.

So, you gonna name your little one after the 1991 or 2003 Penrith grand final side?
