Patten out of the Bulldogs for tonight’s game.
Mountain Boy // Aug 14, 2009 at 2:02 pm
Cowboys – The race to 20 points. Cowboys have reached the magic 20 points in a game 11 times this year, and won 10 of those times. Bulldogs have reached 20 points first 12 times and won all 12 times. But who will reach the magic 20 first here? I think the Cowboys will.
Souths – Penrith showed earlier in the year, that a bit of razzle dazzle can reek havoc in the Titans defence. Souths appear to be better than Panthers in the razzle dazzle Dept. so it should equate to 2 more points for South Sydney.
Roosters – although they are a shadow of the team from a year or so ago – they often are up to play Manly. Watch out for a team that muscles up. Manly to get frustrated here, panic, and make some basic mistakes.
Canberra – Dragons may be too worried about the Souths and Parra games coming up, and not pay enough attention to Canberra. A lot of media about the NRL showing favouritism to St George this year. This week the NRL may try their best to show otherwise.
Cronulla – Not much going right for the Sharks, but then how long can a Marshall streak last? The streak to end here. Tigers/Eels the next week a big game.
Penrith – 100% sentiment. Penrith are really up against it and likely to drop out of the 8 this week, but a few stern words to some key players will hopefully be just what the doctor ordered. Interestingly, Brisbane rarely play on a Sunday – last year the spoon winning Bulldogs beat them on the Sabbath, so who knows?
Newcastle – Melbourne to change their game plan to cater for no Inglis. Storm to play like a NSW team against QLD – boring. Newcastle to take advantage.
Mountain Boy // Aug 14, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Oh – forgot one.
Parra – The stadium at Parra is a scary place to be for any opposition when the blue and gold are in form. The crowd to become a major factor and so we should see 16,000 versus 17. Not much hope for the 17.

Tipping with heart, not head again this week but very glad to see that heart and head agree on so much.
Much excitement around the botton 4 of the top 8 with only 2 points in between 5 and 12.
Souths and Parra’s last hurrahs, both could be in contention for a berth come Monday.
So, head and heart in gear, here we go:
Dogs
Souths
Roosters (you can do it!)
Dragons (Dead rubber)
Eels
Tigers
Panthers (by 7)
Storm
Imagine this Shaun : Tigers, Souths and Parra all in the top 8 !!
Giddyup giddyup

Chomp Chomp .. well done Titans. Bunnies without three major players & all th ball in the last 20 minutes. Ah..but there’s the rub. Why didn’t they score?
Far too much dropped ball 15 metres from the line and Craig Wing should be shot for his clumsy attempt to reach out losing the ball on tackle 1.
As per usual though, they looked like a side – nothing like what we say 7 – 10 rounds ago when they appeared to lose their way completely, and if I were John Cartwright, I’d be making some serious changes right now ‘cos they aint going to be in finals football for long.
Bulldogs won me $20 though as a consolation prize and I still have my hopes up for the Tigers and Eels.
Note to Knights : I wonder if this is the best time to chuck the baby out with the bathwater?

Makes the game between the birds very interesting. If the Chooks can pull off a miracle upset (and don’t think they are going to try) then the Parra-Eels game is very important. An Eels win could see them in the top eight.
I hope the Tigers (and Storm and Panthers) win as well. It will make next Friday night’s clash between Parra and Wests one of the biggest games of the year.
Shaun // Aug 15, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Good win by the Eels. Hayne is an absolute freak. He was brilliant again. Note for the past three games the Eels have only conceded 12 points in total and none in the second half.
So the Eels are in the top eight. Whether they stay there depends on the Panthers and Storm. MB please make sure you have a chat to Penrith about why they need to win tomorrow.
But what about what has happened down south? The Raiders where my roughy and came back from 12-0 nil down. I don’t know how they did it but I bet a few coaches will watch closely the tape of that game.
Shaun // Aug 15, 2009 at 10:44 pm
To add, if the Warriors only attacking play is for Jones to kick high for Vatuvei no wonder they are languishing down near the bottom. They used to be a great side for offloads and attacking from broken play. They seem to have lost all that.
Bismark O'Measles // Aug 15, 2009 at 11:36 pm
So, looking forward to next week, wager-wise, how do you feel about a scarf?
… it would go nicely with the beanie.
Mountain Boy // Aug 16, 2009 at 12:33 pm
I’m glad that either Parra or the Eels won the Parra-Eels match!
Re. Chat – I bumped into L.Lewis last weekend in Penrith. Only pleasantried exchanged, although he was unaware I passed on the winning vibe !
Right now, I hope the Panthers can realise what an opportunity they have of grabbing an unlikely home final, and in the same breath, an greater chance of staying in it for week 2 if they lost in week 1.
I follow neither of the three, but can’t wait to see Souths v Dragons, and Dragons v Parra games in coming weeks.
Shaun // Aug 16, 2009 at 8:51 pm
I was hedging my bests on the Parra-Eels match.
Ok, the Panthers played the Broncos back in form which is not good. The Broncos did the Eels a favour as the Panthers differential is now worse than the Eels so the Eels remain in the eight.
The Eels have a chance still at 5 or 6 depending on results. Playing with the NRL Ladder Predictor, I have the Eels finishing 7th (assuming they win their next two games). The Sea Eagles and Cowboys will need to drop 2 of their remaining games for the Eels to finish higher up.
Of course, there is still tomorrow night. As I’ll be heading to Melbourne tomorrow I’ll have to say go the Storm!
Bismark O'Measles // Aug 16, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Yup… and, if the Kerniggets win by a goal differential of 93+, not only will they be in the top 8 (kicking out the eels) but will also go above the Tigers into 5th.
Go Storm!
As part of my get fit program, I ran round the new Redfern Oval today & had a cup of skimmed decaffe at the Bunnies cafe in the bleachers.. delightful.
MB : Was LL limping? He showed true guts today coming back on the the final 20.
Anyone know what happened to David Taylor?

Oh.. yes, I agree with your SMS Shaun. Next Fridays NSW game will be an absolute stonker and may decide which of you and I are more happy after round 26.
What about the wager?
Mountain Boy // Aug 17, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Was in Canberra on Saturday – although had to head home before kick-off. Would have been good value.
Can’t say much about Penrith thats not old news. I hope for their sake they can manage to win the two out of three they need to make it through. This year has still been a great improvement on where they were 2 years ago.
Will need to add the Western Derby to the list of games to watch. Penrith and Parra will go into this game either tied – or one team two points above the other.
The Dragons run into the finals has turned quite tough – Broncos, Souths, Parra. Jeremy Smith all things being fair will get some sort of suspension for a cheap shot late in the game. The St George loss has given extra confidence to other teams I feel.
Looking forward to the finals, with or without Penrith involved. Looking like the most open final series for years.
Shaun // Aug 18, 2009 at 1:10 pm
After last night, I reckon some teams are tanking to make sure the Eels don’t make the eight.
Mountain Boy // Aug 18, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Highly cynical there Shaun – but it can’t be correct as the Storm now face Raiders, Roosters, and Warriors. Any tanking against those won’t make diddly-squat. The ball is back firmly in the court of the teams still vying for a spot this weekend.
I am of the thinking that a trip to Olympic Park or Skilled Park in finals week one may be a fruitful one for the visiting team – whomever that may be (The jostling may be to try and finish either 5th or 6th)
Tigers/Eels – Panthers/Souths. It’s a special sidelined week coming up.
Bismark O'Measles // Aug 18, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Oh yes…. bring it on!
Shaun // Aug 19, 2009 at 9:33 am
MB, the final three round are a conspiracy against the Eels engineered by the Illuminati with their black helicopters.
Speaking of the conspiracies, look at what the Tigers are up to.
A win for the Eels is a win for all that is good in league and denunciation of those teams that engage in ethically dubious practices.
Mountain Boy // Aug 19, 2009 at 5:49 pm
The difference between NRL season 2009 and the Dan Brown novels is that NRL ’09 seems to have the more twists.
All is not as it seems. The chosen ones, could well be shown not to be the chosen ones, and the chasers may indeed become the chased (or should that be, chaste?)
Will the Pope truly recognise the beatification of George? Was there ever really a Dragon that George did slay? Who do the fans support anyway – the Dragon or George ??? From what I hear, it’s both. Talk about an each-way bet.
