Yup, I’ll go with all of those except I like the idea of the Kergiggets at BT.
The saving grace of the whole Wing Thing is that the Buns are making a serious tilt at K Hunt. Not too sure where that will leave Wesser R but I’m sure he’ll do well at the club.
Have fun on Friday night Shaun.

Newcastle, Gold Coast, Canterbury, Penrith, Cronulla, Canberra, New Zulland – a sure thing, Souths.
Mountain Boy // Jul 24, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Newcastle’s victims this year have included 1/ St George 2/ the Bulldogs 3/ Gold Coast, as well as taking care of Brisbane and Manly and a narrow loss to the Storm. How is a team like that paying $2.80 at Gosford against anybody? Reminds me a lot of Penrith in ’03. Noone gave them much hope at all.

Oh – that’s how come ..
Shaun // Jul 24, 2009 at 11:36 pm
For 20 minute MB I was thinking that you had a good point. Then the Knights fell apart. Their mistakes let Manly back into the match. The Sea Eagles were shot at 14 nil. Their defense weak and attack a shambles.
The Knights got the dropsies and 34 unanswered points later it was all over.
And we didn’t see it because we were at the palm tree end of the stadium and it happened up the other end but late in the 2nd half the Manly mascot got jumped by a spectator. The mascot won as he was down our end soon after.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I almost had a tear in the eye near the end of the game tonight.
That was Parra’s best effort of the year. Simply outstanding defence on their own line denied the Dogs. And then Fui Fui barging up the middle and Hayne with his runs. Incredible.
Credit to Daniel Anderson. He has reshaped the side and they are responding well. The signs have been there since the Newcastle game and now things are really coming together. Maybe a bit late for season but 2010 is looking good.

Very hard not to get carried away of late, but could Sidelined be blessed this year with top 8 finishes for Eels, Rabbits, and Panthers ? I am more and more thinking, Yes.
Jennings, I think, holds the key for Penrith. The thing for him to do here is get a strongbox to put that key in, and tell noone else the combination. Losing 4 of their last 8, Jennings did not play in any of those 4 losses. They have now won the last 7 times he has played. Guard that key.
My initial tips and thoughts on Friday morning didn’t go through for some reason, but regards the Bulldogs Parra game it told that “if Parra get up here after rebuilding their team from the inside out, not to mention the outside in, then book your seat for round 27, the first week of the finals”. So that’s what I think now.
Souths are also playing great, I think they are playing the holes on the fringes better than any team (that’s any team). They are the team I wouldn’t want to play in the semis.
Mountain Boy // Jul 26, 2009 at 2:07 am
I was lucky enough to be at the corresponding Cowboys game back in2003. Panthers got up 28-24 in golden point – and what a game it was. Running 4th at the time, it was probably where their run got a real kick-start. 3 months later, well, the rest is history. Possibly a bit foolhardy to think history could repeat here, but possibly just as foolhardy to completely discount it too.
Shaun // Jul 26, 2009 at 4:01 pm
MB, the Panthers should be thinking about a top four. The Storm are vulnerable. But Manly is also on the charge and Penrith need to find a way to get ahead of them.
The top six will be pretty much as it is now with 4,5 and 6 subject to change.
Now the Bunnies, Parra and Wests really have a chance for 7 and 8. The Knights and Cowboys could be fragile. The Broncos are gone and will be watching the from the sidelines during a final series for the first time in 17 years

I wouldn’t put it past the Beloved Buns to do something stupid like lose to the Chooks on Monday night…… surely not.
On the ice, Buster O’Measles came second in States Ice Dance with the lovely Matilda at Penrith yesterday. There’s just too much of a height difference at the moment cos he’s hit his growth spurt and she hasn’t and it make it difficult for her to get her edges right – only a matter of time though……
Until tomorrow night.

..continuing on from my confusion about Newcastle doing so well against top 8 teams but now only 6th – I am much more confused about why St George haven’t beaten a team in the top 4*, as well as other top 8 losses to Newcastle (6), and Cowboys (7). In fact, the only teams they have lost to, are sitting in the top 8. (*I included the Bulldogs as a loss for them too – even though the video ref disagrees)
The Dragons face off against the Storm next week, Panthers (featuring special guest M.Jennings) the week after, and a resurgent Souths and Parra, weeks 25 and 26. I won’t have any drama calling them the favourites if they come through these coming 6 weeks unscathed. The next two will be interesting though.
Shaun // Jul 27, 2009 at 10:52 am
MB,
Round 2, The Dragons beat the Titans 16-10. Round 13 the Titans beat the Dragons.
Mountain Boy // Jul 27, 2009 at 1:06 pm
So much for that theory then.
Its still interesting that all their losses have been to top 8 sides. They meet two more top 8′ers in the next two weeks. Melbourne with 8 days rest against 5; and then Penrith at CUA the following Friday with key players back in the team that weren’t there for their first meeting.
Shaun // Jul 27, 2009 at 1:28 pm
If I was a Dragons fan I’d me more worried if they had lost to teams outside the top 8. Though the losses by the Dragons have been hard fought games.
The Dragons are not unbeatable of course. But they have been the most consistent side this year and improved as the season has gone on. The question is in those losses, did the Dragons play poorly or the other teams play out of their skins?
There seems to be an idea that Manly are going to be in a final push to win the comp but I’m not convinced yet. The battles between them, the Storm and the Panthers for fourth spot will be fascinating.
The Dogs did have a hiccup on the weekend but that should not be a sign of things to come. Well, not yet anyway.
The Titans had a good win but they remind me of Cronulla last year. When it comes to the crunch they may fade away when they can’t play at Skilled Park.
Mountain Boy // Jul 27, 2009 at 5:50 pm
The thing is the Dragons are set for the minor premiership unless they lose 3 out of the next 6. They could even still win the M/P with 3 losses but doubtful they will lose more than one.
With teams surging like Souths, Parra, and Tigers – it would likely be one of these that claim 8th. There’s a chance that either Souths or Parra will need to beat the Dragons in the closing weeks to get into the finals – and then have to play them again in finals week 1. For Parra it could be two weeks in a row against the Dragons!! That should make for an abnormally competitive 1st v 8th semi. Fingers crossed.
Shaun // Jul 27, 2009 at 10:19 pm
After watching Souths tonight, I’m not convinced that their surge is going to continue. They took a long time to close out the Roosters in a game they should have had won by half time.
The Bunbuns have the Dogs, Sea Eagles and Titans over the next three weeks. On tonight’s form I don’t see them troubling any of those teams.
Bismark O'Measles // Jul 28, 2009 at 7:47 am
I didn’t have vision but, from what I was hearing, agree.
Two floggings over the next three weeks will see the end of them unless a couple of their compatriots hoverring around the 8 can commit harikiri faster than they can.
All the best Bunnies, glorious win last night, but I fear that may be the end of your hopping.

Mountain Boy // Jul 28, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Dont discount that Souths may also be aware that they have some tough games coming up – and that there should be no need to burn all the gas at the one barbecue. In saying that they took the foot off the pedal slightly last night, they were still far too good – and I wouldn’t be too harsh for the deceleration.
In my eyes, the new version of the Bunnies are yet to meet a team that can contain them. This week will be a great pointer as to whether they can go the whole way. The way they are creating holes in defences, my belief is they can.
Shaun // Jul 28, 2009 at 4:59 pm
MB, I hope you don’t think I’m contrary for the sake of it. Your insights over the year have been great and often made me rethink the game.
But…(and you knew this was coming
) I wasn’t that impressed with the Bunnies. In their recent run of form, one win was against the depleted Panthers and another against a depleted and demoralised Broncos. And we know where the Roosters are at.
I could be wrong (and often have been this season) but I see the Dogs being too strong. Especially after the loss to Parra. They will turn up with renewed intensity. In fact I don’t see Souths winning for the next three rounds.
But the Bunnies proving me wrong would be a great thing for the game and it would gladden my heart. But not as much as a great Eels run home.
Mountain Boy // Jul 29, 2009 at 12:02 pm
It’s important for people to think the way they do, and it’s important not to care too much if people don’t see it the same way. When it comes to football, there’ll always be times when you will be spot on, as well as the times you are three carparks from the mark.
The Sure Thing for eg. has become a bit of a stir and thats all. I do think its great, though, when a Sure Thing loses, not to show you up, but just to show that in footy, as in life, you can never really know for sure what’s going to happen next.
