Poor bloody Scott Prince. Why even bother going into this game to prove anything? He could reach over the back of his head, pull his skin suit off and reveal that he’s been Dally Messenger all along and by the way he first played for Brisbane Easts, and he still be locked out of the Queensland Origin side.
Picking Roosters for basically the same reason Shaun did the Eels; gluttony.

Yeah, Prince is having a rough time but Thurston is starting to get back to his best form. QLD won’t go wrong selecting either but the incumbent is always hard to push out.
Unless you are talking about NSW. As long as the selectors concentrate on trying not to lose a series instead of trying to win a series, QLD will have the upper hand.

I think NSW will surprise this year. Mason isn’t playing so the forwards pack won’t be handicapped…I kid, but only with the Mason remark.
Having said that, I am quite confident indeed that the NSW selectors can demonstrate how capable they are of shooting themselves and the team in the foot.
This week is the week for Manly to prove they can play and win without Stewart. If they can’t win at home against the not-quite-clicking Storm, they have to seriously rethink what they are doing this year.

I know the pain well. Last year, they should have looked to the future and tried a few players. But they are so obsessed with not losing they’ve forgotten how to win.
But yer right about Manly. But the Storm are travelling better even though they are ordinary.

I think I identify better with the places much more than their mascots. My call to BRING BACK PLACE NAMES !!
Not wanting to sound harsh, but let’s be realistic. Prince had the chance to show his hand on Monday night for an entire 80 minutes against a vastly inexperienced Penrith halves line-up but still lost out (and hands down). A closer look at his cards revealed the best he was holding was the 3 of clubs. I summise, if he can’t perform against meagre club opposition, what chance against NSW? My calculation on what part he will play in Origin ’09 computes … ‘Spectator’.
Enough about the Maroon-colour-necked-people. I say build your NSW team around Farah and Wallace playing as the halves combination. Ennis at hooker. Jennings down the left centre. Lawrence down the right centre. Book ends I would have Luke Bailey and Michael Weyman. Second row Anthony Laffranchi and Glenn Hall. Floating lock Luke Lewis – I know he’s not tried and tested at lock but he does show he can take on the line, tackle, link in with the backline, kick, chase, back-up etc. He’s also got origin experience too – and in general, my picks are light-on in the origin-cap department. Fullback Kurt Gidley. Wingers Joel Monaghan and Brett Morris. I know Campese is all the talk for #6, but I see Farah / Wallace as having a better understanding and ability to create chances. Campo, although talented, can often fall into the category of a player that overplays his hand to the deterement of his team (ie in layman’s terms – a hog). I will use the “versus Penrith” test on Campo this weekend again to judge if he is worthy of the Blue#6
Shaun // May 1, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Mountain Boy, the Tigers tried Farah in the halves and it didn’t work. And one thing I hate is playing players out of position especially in Origin. It will be Farah or Ennis. Wallace at half.
You are right about Campo but I’d be willing to give him a go.
gilmae // May 1, 2009 at 5:07 pm
I think NSW needs to select Paul Gallen as pivot.
Mountain Boy // May 1, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Seems the Farah bait got taken hook-line-&-sinker!! Farah I will say is the more versatile, but Ennis possibly one of not-many goal-kickers in the mix – so on that point alone, will probably get the nod.

Hayne is now the Eels No 1 fullback and, if he continues this form, a must for Origin.
A great performance that show flair, brilliance and grit. Special mention to Kris Keating who is really starting grow as a half back. Some good signs.
As for Manly, they dominated the Storm for field position (especially the second half) but lost. A credit to the Storm’s defense as I liked the shape of Manly’s attack.

Great job Eels.
I fell asleep 10 minutes from the end of the Manly game and woke up about half an hour later with the 14-0 scoreline staring me in the face… no hope of a replay though so I’ve no idea how they did it!
The Keating bro’s (paticularly Chris) are doing wonders for them.
JT is just another footballer now… not something special like he used to be.
I’ve gone the Bunnies (again) mainly to stick it up my wife’s cousin who just called us from the ground to gloat about being there.
A great weekends footie awaits !

Anyone know what was wrong with the Buns last try??????
Shaun // May 2, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Well I fell asleep 10 minutes from the end of the Bun Buns and Titans game. I woke up and it is the Sharks and Roosters.
But the Bun Buns did cop a raw deal from the ref in the second half. Before the Titans’ second try there was a knock on missed in a previous set. Then Sutton puts a kick through and Prince blatantly takes out a player but is not penalised. Titans then score from the set (IIRC).
Souths really defended hard second half but the weight of possession against them was going to hurt.
Mountain Boy // May 2, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Hi Bismarck
As soon as it went from Luke’s hand to Campbell’s it becomes a knock-on. No different to a forward running the ball up, it then comes loose and bounces off the defender. Straight away its a knock-on. That’s definitely what happened today, so pretty unlucky, but a correct ruling.
Shaun // May 2, 2009 at 11:04 pm
What a night in Newcastle. A 35 minute half time break due to lightning striking the ground.
But well done Knights on a great victory.
And well done Panthers.
Obviously my radar for upsets is way off at the moment.

Indeed. Oh the Raiders cost me. Bastards.
Shaun // May 3, 2009 at 1:00 am
On results so far, I fully expect the Warriors and Tigers to win tomorrow.
Bismark O'Measles // May 3, 2009 at 1:52 am
Matty Rogers blatantly took out Craig Wing just before half time as well – should have been a penalty try instead of just 2 for a penalty.
Ho hum… no disgrace but there goes my tipping for the weekend.

Opinions on the disallowed try due to obstruction in the Bulldogs-Tigers game…?
I thought it was clearly an obstruction; the Bulldogs ball carrier maneuvered to get Andrew Ryan between himself and Ellis, who was coming in for a tackle, and not on Ryan.
Shaun // May 4, 2009 at 11:35 pm
I’m sure I saw this but can’t remember it now That’s what Mondays do to ya.
The Sunday Roast spent part of the show going over the controversial obstruction rulings from the weekend.
One good point was that players are getting away with poor reads in defense as the tries are often disallowed due to “obstruction.”
