Bird’s tangled web

April 28th, 2009 by Shaun · 1 Comment

Ex Shark Greg Bird has been found guilty of recklessly wounding his girlfriend Kate Milligan.

What happened is well documented. As Magistrate Roger Clisdel stated:

“Why did Ms Milligan and Mr Bird continue with these … lies if there was always an innocent explanation?,” Mr Clisdell asked.

“If in fact it was an accident, why not say it was an accident? Why go down the path of implicating a person who was entirely blameless?”

It is baffling. As is Katie Milligan’s non-appearance in court. Which was interesting as part of the defence seemed to imply Milligan was the one telling all the porkies.

The Sharks were right to let him go. He compounded the issue but refusing to come clean with the club. It seems he still hasn’t learned that honest is the best policy. I just see him digging himself into a deeper hole by continuing to deny any wrongdoing. He can only blame himself for what has transpired.

Bird will be sentenced on June 22nd (pending any appeals which are likely).
