Tigers v Knights, Sunday 3:00pm Campbelltown Sports Stadium

The obvious question is can the Tigers reproduce last week's might defense. Order Rogaine online no prescription, I dunno but the Tigers seem to be falling into a inconsistent pattern. The Knights however are one of the real surprises this season. I like the cut of their jib so far. The Tigers needs to string a few wins together to gain respect.

Panthers v Titans, Monday 7:00pm CUA Stadium

The Titans have been quite impressive this year. Not blowing teams away but just grinding them down and scoring tries when needed, order Rogaine online no prescription. Out west, the Panthers have shown plenty of fight but seem to have the dropsies. They are a better team that their position on the ladder suggests. A real coin toss for this game but I'm gonna give the Panthers some more love.

The Sure Thing: The Broncos to be honest but I have put my money (with some trepidation) on the Bun buns.

The Roughy: Go the Eels.

*Of course sensible people will tip the Broncos.

I never thought I’d see the day when you’d mention the ‘Cardinal and Mertyl’ and the ‘sure thing’ in the same sentence … wow.

Using a combination of divining rod, crystal ball, ouja board, voodoo doll, four-leaf clover, chinese boading balls, horse-shoe, and dart – I have come up with …

    Broncos
    Sharks
    Roosters
    Warriors
    Sea Eagles
    Raiders
    Knights
    Panthers

Conspiracy to continue. Broncos / Channel 9 marriage still going strong.

Sharks had a few calls go against them against the Cowboys that could have turned the game. At times they looked ok in attack so don’t be too surprised with a minor Sharks revival.

Roosters to pull something out with their backs to the wall. Laterally thinking here, the fact they are trying to right a sinking ship, they lose the ANZAC game regularly, and also now having players miss out on the origin draft will be a bit of a three-pronged spur. The fork is always a useful utensil.

More lateral thinking – Don’t be surprised if other half of the ANZAC alliance show some spirit in this one.

Wolfman was the one that gave Manly their spirit last year. He’s back this week. Just needs to make a couple of solid runs and the rest of the team fires up.

Results in Canberra are more often to do with the green-eyed supporters and the resultant penalties and field position, than the cold and the wet. This week, though, you will have all three.

I wonder if the Tigers have trouble keeping a lid on things after a win? They always seem to have their heads in the clouds the next week. I only assume it will be the same this week.

Panthers, a tip for fans and fools. I’m both. In saying that, I think they are keen to make a statement about where they can get to this year. Will know the answer around 9pm Monday.

For me I would rather not have the Friday night game – as a season ticket holder there is nothing like a Sunday afternoon at the footy – I wish Channel 9 would butt out!!!!

Be thankful for small mercies that I didn’t get back into Sydney till 7:45. The Bun Buns v Sharks was on the radio and listened to the game as I drove home.

Just hearing the scores was bad enough. Oh Eels, what can I say? There is always next year is appropriate I think. Be a while before I tip youse again. Even in a moment of woefully misguided passion.

As for the other game, Souths did well and got me some money. But the Sharks could have had that game. The Bunnies were lucky from what I heard. The Sharks bombed a few tries that may have turned the game if they got the ball down.

You’re right Shaun, apart from anything else the Sharks No.2 should be shot for dropping the ball on the line as he went over unchallenged – what a clown. To be honest I think the Buns would have lost in golden point – they were buggered.

What I did like about the game was the bit (and it was only a bit) of flair from the Buns – JS Kicking on zero… fantastic!

I must admit I felt sorry for the poor Eeeels – particularly J Hayne who continually (nearly) caught bombs on or close to the try line and somehow managed not to score – I counted 5 times but it could have been 6…. a potential 32 points gone : draw. (BTW : I know it’s not quite a simple as that!)

Hiney nearly killed Lockyer as well by repeatedly kicking him in the teeth and dancing a jig on his mellon.

As for today, looking forward to the Cambeltown match although I notice little Timmy M is out for the Tigers which could well hurt them.. he was great last Monday.

BTW : did you see Gus’ comments on Ricky Stewart today (“http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/lhqnews/stuart-v-gould/2009/04/25/1240606648338.html”)? He describes RS as ‘petulant’ which, in my view, is exactly what he’s doing here and I’m at a loss to understand what he thinks he’s going to gain from it. Spicey stuff though..

Anyhow 5/5 so far – Go Tigers !!!!

I was going to go the Tigers game but didn’t get back from Wollongong on time – damn, that was a great game.

Agreed Gilmae – everything that makes footy good including a nail-biting finish.

    Shame about the Bulldogs.

I think it is fair to say that Gus calling Ricky petulant is akin to the pot calling the kettle black. The whole affair is a spat worthy of the schoolyard. I’d be quite pleased indeed if the two of them would just have it out in the ring or shut the hell up. Either way works for me.

I don’t mind Gus. He is far better than the hacks at News (who do their best ignite these personal battles) and does have some great insights into the game.

But this is not one of them. It is an ego clash that only gets ugly by slanging each other off in the press. Gilmae’s suggestion is a good one.

On the field, well done to the Tigers. 24-10 with 20 to go, the Knights fell asleep. Marshall is playing well but I still get this feeling that when he fails to fire, the Tigers turn into kittens.

Even though he is a pest, Michael Ennis is pushing Farah for the hooker’s spot for the Blues. He got the Bulldogs home today and is playing extremely well. Farah has some work to do over the next few weeks.

Ding dong, the witch is dead. What this means for Parra is still hard to say. But Fitzy’s time was long gone.

Hmmm, 5 from 7 (leaving out the draw) and I knew I was a goner tipping the Eels. But I had too, just this once.

I liked what I saw of Penrith tonight. Good ball control – which they have lacked in recent games – was the key. Sammut’s two tries just before half time were brilliant. Shows how discipline can make a big difference.

From the south-west corner at CUA, my cerebelum couldn’t believe the refractive signals my retinas were transmitting (ie I couldnt believe my eyes at some of these ref-calls again). Panthers getting pinged for offside from the kick-off ??!! (and there was noone blatantly offside ). Prince getting penalised for diving after playing the ball. (Surely thats just play on – no indescretion by either player, and the ref tells Prince to get the hell up?) Locky Coote doing a “Satts” tackle on the G/Coast winger to save a try – only for the ref to have no looks at the video to check if he was out before passing, and pointing to the spot. Not a penalty awarded against the away team for offside when there were numerous occasions and encouragement from the crowd. G/Coast spill the ball about 10 times in all – possibly one of those ruled a knock-on, most of them ruled 6 more tackles. More than once, Penrith pinged for holding down in the tackle on the 5th when noone but the ref could see something in it. In all, another strange performance by the refs, and distinctly smelling of a result that went against their script.

Question for the learned panel: Is Phil Rothfield of the Daily Telegraph a blowhard boofhead, or am I missing some canny insights? It seems to me that he strives not to report news in the rugby league world, but to create it. The flare up of pettiness between Gould and Stuart seems to me a direct result of his fanning the flames; it felt to me that he was actively campaigning in the Parramatta board vote via his column.

Am I getting the wrong impression?

    Shaun // Apr 28, 2009 at 9:36 pm

In regards to your question gilmae, abso-fucking-lutley. I detest Rothfield’s holier than thou reporting.

Rothfield is on record for his dislike of Daniel Anderson. He also is not on Fitzgerald’s Christmas card list either. The Daily Telecrap’s coverage did seem to swing to the 3p ticket in the recent Para elections. But they also seem to be death riding the Eels as well.

I don’t expect much from the Eels (it helps with the pain) this year but Anderson will start rebuilding soon. Forward depth is the big concern. Astute recruitment plus a clean out will bring results.

Halves is still a worry but I don’t think the Eels need to buy here. Kris Keating is showing he has some great skills and should get a good run to cement a spot. Mortimer and Kelly in the U/20s are also good prospects.
