State of Origin III: Live Blogging

July 1st, 2008 by Shaun · 155 Comments

Yes folks. Live blogging of Origin III will be here on Wednesday night. It will start sometime between 7:30 and 8:00pm with the ceremonial bagging of Ben Ikin.

I wonder if NSW win Ikin be so depressed that he will stop commentating. And with the ceremonial bagging of Ikin live blogging of Origin is back..

Don’t think NSW will be held scoreless this time around but a lot rides on it for NSW. A loss will see many changed next year not the least being the selectors. Though they will likely blame the ref.

QLD win 16-10 in an epic contest. For a while it seemed NSW had the upper hand but they just couldn’t put NSW away. Some magic from Thurston gave Slater a try and broke the deadlock. QLD win the third series in a row.

Thanks for stopping by folks. I’m off to sharpen the pitchfork. The angry mob are going to march on NSW RL headquarters to find Fulton and the rest of the useless selectors.
And does Willy Mason have it in him to realize his pontential. All will start to be revealed in about 15 minutes.

Please oh please get rid of Ikin.

A fairytale ending for Buderus?

Go Gus! Worth a dozen Ikins. So if Bellamy decides not to coach next year then who for NSW? Fittler may make a good choice. I reckon NSW needs an Origin legend regardless of tonight’s result.

Ah, Joey. Clean shaven a presentable as ever.

Gidley and Cross to start for NSW. Stewart and Mason on the bench.

Myles to start for QLD and Crocker on the bench.

Looks like a good crowd in for the game.

God what boring music on 106.5 FM.

Hmmm…a motorised Star Wars AT-AT…some latent geekiness slips through.

Rabs is in the announcers chair so not long now.

QLD on the field. A chorus of boos in the lounge room. Well a couple at least.

GO THE BLUES!

Please be upstanding for the ritual mangling of the national anthem.

Here we go. NSW to kick off.

Pearce…great hit on Price.

What was that anthem? Sounded nothing like ‘Khe San.’

1st minute: Hunt spills the ball and NSW get some good position.

BIFF! A high shot on Cross starts a stoush.

NSW going for goal. Not sure on this. Be better to keep the pressure on QLD.

3rd minute: NSW 2-0

WHAT! Quin drops the ball near the line and Folau scores one of the easiest tries of his career.

5th minute: QLD 4 - 2

6th minute: Thurston misses from out wide. Score remains 4 - 2 to QLD.

10th minute: Quinn redeems himself with a great run from his in goal and gets NSW a penalty.

14th minute: QLD drop the ball and give NSW a chance.

YES! COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRR!

NSW 6 - 4

17th minute: Fitzgibbon makes the conversion and NSW lead 8 - 4

Prince - possible fractured arm

19th minute: Hoffman the idiot gives away a penalty close to the NSW line

21st minute: QLD end an ordinary set of six with catching Hayne in the in goal.

22nd minute: QLD bomb to Quin’s wing and Folau soars through the air, takes the ball and scores. Scores level.

24th minute: Thruston misses again and scores remain level at 8 all

26th minute: Buderus runs up the middle and gets NSW a penalty in very good position. Fitzgibbon to take a shot at goal

28th minute: Fitzgibbon goals and NSW lead 10-8

30th minute: Hayne uses his head tackling Slater and is knocked out

34th minute: NSW seem to have a little more penetration through the ruck. Pearce puts in a great clearing kick.

39th minute: Inglis raids down the NSW left and passes to Boyd but Hunt knocks on with the goal line open.

Halftime: QLD have scored two tries to one but Fitzgibbon’s goal kicking has NSW in the lead 10-8.

The loss of Prince seems to have unsettled the QLDers. NSW looking the better side as the half wore on. But with a 2 point difference, it is still anyone’s game.

40 minutes to Origin glory!

43rd minute: Stacks on the mill in the QLD in goal. Off to the video ref to check on a possible NSW try

44th minute: The crowd boos as QLD recieve a penalty

46th minute: You can’t call it a brain explosion as Gallen seems to lack one. But he gives away a penalty right in front and the scores are level.

Cross uplifted and more biff

49th minute: Myles on report for the tackle on Cross and penalty to NSW

52 minute: Crocker is knocked out by the football of all things.

52nd minute: Mason finally make a good run. NSW almost score from the ensuing kick but knock on

55th minute: Folau romps down the sideline, kicks ahead and Anasta saves a try.

56th minute: With QLD on the attack just metres from the NSW, Thaiday drops the ball and NSW get a break

61st minute: NSW seem to have the upper hand but can’t put QLD away. A gripping contest

BUGGER!

Thurston dummies and ghosts through the line finding Slater backing up who scores. QLD 14 NSW 10

69th minute: Thurston converts and QLD lead 16 - 10

Crowd is 78,750 according to Rabs

75th minute: QLD are hanging on repelling a NSW raid

76th minute: Price charges down a Pearce kick close to his line and then QLD get a penalty. Not looking good for NSW

FORWARD PASS WITH NSW ON ATTACK! It is all over for NSW

Well done Queensland. NSW seemed to have the upper hand for most of the game but could not put the Maroons away. A better NSW side that the previous two but some questions remain over the forwards. Gallen’s limitations were revealed. Mason turned in a solid performance but far from the career defining display that was expected.

QLD win their third series in a row. See you all here next year.
