Its on again folks! Live blogging the sporting gala that is State of Origin. First snark will be directed at Ben Ikin (unless Nine bless us all and give him a rest from the commentary).
Live blogging is on over the fold.
Woo hoo! No Ben Ikin in commentary (so far). And that mock call of the NSW team of the century by Rabs was bloody moving.
Too much air time being devoted to the Quincelanders.
Bugger. Ikin has turned up.
Here come the cane toads. Maybe one will do a hammy on the way out.
After a minutes silence for Jack Rayner, please be upstanding for the ritual mangling of the national anthem.
QLD to kick off. Here we go!
2nd minute: good hit on Webb
3rd minute: Wallace looks at home in Origin already.
Quinn is in! Great work by Wallace, Bird, Hoffman and Stewart. NSW on the board.
Fitzgibbon converts and NSW up 6-0 in the 6th minute.
8th minute: Tate busts down the sideline and tries to centre a kick but goes over the dead ball line. Goose.
11 minute: great take by Hayne and to also get out of in goal
9th minute: You are joking Archer! Stupid penalty.
15 minute: Keep dropping the ball Billy
Sorry for the break. Had to go parenting.
26th minute: Great pass Billy. Keep it up.
29th minute: Great tackle on Slater by Cooper. Good hit.
30th minute: Gus has already called it for NSW.
30th minute: A bit of luck for the NSW as QLD almost get the ball back after kicking down field.
31st minute: Mason you goose. No need to offload there. QLD have the ball after Willie was a little too slick
33rd minute: Gus is bored. Seems to want to go home and celebrate a win
34th minute: Bewdiful hit on Crocker by Mason. Willie’s made up for the dropped ball
34th minute: A penalty to NSW. About time as QLD have been doing whatever it is all night.
STEWART! Great work by Gasnier to send Brett Stewart in for 14 nil!
Wallace finally makes a mistake missing an easy conversion. NSW 14 nil after 37 minutes.
Is Gasnier the best centre ever as claimed by Gould? Discuss in comments.
38th minute: Wallace is slipping. Kick out on the fill allowing QLD good position on the 40 meter line in NSW territory.
39th minute: Stewart shepards a kick over the goal line. QLD get a line drop out with less than a minute left.
40th minute: QLD ask “Can I has try?”
The vid ref sez yes and right half time QLD get 4 points. Chase the ball Quinn!
Thurston misses the conversion and the halftime score is NSW 14-6 over QLD.
NSW have had most of the running in the first half. Wallace has looked assured and got to agree with Mungo that the Newy connection is serving the blues well. QLD were looking out on their feet but the try right on half time will give them a much needed lift. Time for a beer.
Right. Players are back for the second half. Whose blind optimism, Gus or Fatty’s, will win out?
42nd minute: Great tackle on Slater to take him over the sideline.
42nd minute: Gaz fires up with a great run.
Can someone tell Bird to pass the ball a little more often? Twice in that set the movement died when he was at first receiver.
44th minute: Stewart caught in goal. Great effort by Hodges.
45th minute: QLD drop the ball attacking the NSW line. Good on them.
48th minute: Penalty to the Blues. If the ref was on his game that would have been a send off for..something.
49th minute: NSW do something silly and hand the ball back and then QLD lose the ball just in NSW’s half.
51st minute: NSW tackled just short of the QLD line on the 6th tackle. NSW starting to find dominance in field position.
56th minute: QLD dis the ref and QLD get marched 10.
53rd minute: What a passage of play. I can’t describe it but NSW did well to hold QLD out. And then, attacking the NSW line. QLD stuff up and NSW get the ball back.
57 minute: Game getting a little sloppy as both sides seem keen to give each other the ball.
62nd minute: Come off it ref! QLD get a penalty 10 metres out from the NSW line.
62nd minute: QLD stuff up on the NSW line. Heh.
63rd minute: Hunt and Fitzgibbon have a meeting of the minds.
64th minute: QLD lose the ball 20 out from their own line. Hold it blues
66th minute: QLD defuse a Wallace kick. Time is starting to turn against QLD.
67th minute: Thurston drops the ball again and give NSW more great field position.
Laffranchi is over! Great work again by Gaz. Decision sent upstairs for some reason.
Vid ref sez yes and NSW lead 18-4.
Fitzgibbon sends it wide and the score remains 18-4 with just over 10 minutes to go. Go you good things.
Oh great tackle on Slater by Quinn. Next tackle Thurston kicks the ball over the in goal line. QLD stuff up another scoring chance in the 71st minute.
73rd minute: Dangerous kick by Thruston defused by Steward. QLD get a scrum close to the NSW line.
Mason saves a try but is penalised and Tate goes over in the corner…or does he? Hoffman saves a try as Tate goes over the touchline.
74th minute: Attendance around 67,000
75th minute: Johnson looking very unsteady on his feet. Copped an accidental knee from big willy.
77th minute: Hayne almost runs away after the ball bounce around from a Thurston kick. Tate regathers and tries to kick through but NSW end up with the ball
The Crocker run is over. Mick Crocker will be in a losing side for the first time since August 2005.
QLD raid the NSW line for the last time.
Folau goes over in the corner. Checking with the vid ref…
…a try but that is it folks. Thurston converts but it is all over. 18-10 to NSW.
NSW WINS!
NSW have run over winners dominating QLD in game one. Anthony Quinn scores two tries on debute. Gasnier was a handful out wide and Bird and Gallen combined well up the middle. Wallace in his debut played years above his experience. No changes I see for Game 2 unless injury plays part.
As for QLD, they were outsmarted by Bellamy. Prince will have to come into the side in game 2.
Thanks for stopping by. My laptop battery is running low so over and out from me.

Let’s face it, this is a Knights-lead recovery. Capt, double scorer, secret coaching weapon. It’s all us.
Mungo Amanda // May 21, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Willie, you goose. He is a good Newcastle boy too but note we had the sense not to sign him.
Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 8:48 pm
Really impressed with Wallace so far.
Bismark O'Measles // May 21, 2008 at 8:48 pm

gilmae // May 21, 2008 at 9:02 pm
I don’t suppose Queensland have the new Gatorade flavour, Balls. They need some in defence.

Yeah, I want to see it. WTF is Lennon Vauxhall?

Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 9:04 pm
True gilmae but I’m never confident in Origin. Fatty reckons the try on fulltime has won QLD the game. Won’t go that far but QLD do have a tendency to come back.
Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 9:07 pm
OK. I see.
The wife watched Underbelly but I’m yet to see a single episode. I a litte pissed that I had 6 eps of Dexter saved to watch and had to wipe the Foxtel hard drive.
gilmae // May 21, 2008 at 9:08 pm
I wouldn’t be entirely surprised, no. Even if they do get up, I hope someone eats a murder of crows and gives Prince a call.
Mungo Amanda // May 21, 2008 at 9:08 pm
S2 of Dexter was exellent. Keith Carradine is very cool.
Bismark O'Measles // May 21, 2008 at 9:08 pm
U got BSG 4 of 4 yet??
Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 9:09 pm
The first three eps. Only seen one so far. Only 10 eps this run I’ve heard. 10 more to come next year.

Man-blading eh……..where will it all end?
Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 9:14 pm

gilmae // May 21, 2008 at 9:49 pm
What was the name of the Canberra player who debuted late in his career for Queensland in 2006? Had a blinder of a game? Quinn has had his game.
Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 9:49 pm
No, I was remarking to The Beloved that I don’t get that add either.

I feel dirty for agreeing with Phil Gould, but Falou should be playing in his normal position.
Oh god, the Gould. It doesn’t brush off!
Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 10:02 pm
WOO HOO! 1-0 to the Blues
Bismark O'Measles // May 21, 2008 at 10:02 pm

Shaun // May 21, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Gould doesn’t worry me. It is Ikin I can’t stand.
Vee // May 21, 2008 at 10:11 pm
Proud of the Blues, they didn’t fall the fights that QLD were inviting in the constant niggling in the tackles. Other than that same old Brisbane/Melbourne/QLD – coathanger tackles and forward passes.
And what about my boy LAFFRANCHI!
Shaun // May 22, 2008 at 9:39 am
Sober reflection in the morning and Bellamy deserves a lot of the credit. In hindsight, QLD have tried to use emotion and a “go to Thurston” game plan to get over the top and it has failed. Unless Meninga can come up with something more than “Queenslander!” NSW are good odds to win.
I wonder if Bellamy’s game plan will be used against him when the Storm play?
