The assailant is not the vicitim and other progressive ideas

I’m not that much into the whole swimming bizzo but there was a piece of such pure stupidity in today’s SMH that has turned my attention (momentarily) away from the footy.

It was a piece featuring quotes from Brian Stehr, the coach of Nick D’Arcy who is facing charges for assaulting another swimmer in a Sydney club.

Piece of pure stupidity number 1:

“Any one of us could have reacted in the same way to what Nick had to react to on that night.”

No. Most of us would not have king hit another person in a club.

Piece of pure stupidity number 2:

“To be honest, I’m worried about the effect it would have on him for the rest of his life if he doesn’t get the opportunity to go to Beijing,”

Poor diddums. Really it was just a misunderstanding. Never mind the vicitim “will have five titanium plates in his face for the rest of his life after his jaw, eye socket, hard palate, cheekbone and nose were all fractured.” What about the effect on him for the rest of his life?

Piece of pure stupidity number 3:

“I think it’s time for people, including the media, to say enough is enough; this guy [D'Arcy] has been through hell and back,”

Poor diddums again. If only big bad media will leave him alone.

So do you get it? D’Arcy is really the victim in all of this. Which is an interesting twist on the situation. I’m sure the court will see the situation a little differently.
