1st Test Australia v Sri Lanka

November 7th, 2007 by Shaun · 7 Comments

The long gap (I think it is just over a month) between the footy and cricket seasons is over. Tomorrow Australia leave the pyjamas behind to take on Sri Lanka in the First test at the Gabba.

For the Aussies, it is the start of a new era. No Warnie, McGrath or Langer. The replacements have big shoes to fill. Stuey MacGill finally emerges from Warnes shadow and deserves his spot even though recent form has not been great. Phil Jaques will take Langer’s spot after taking his chances over the others being considered to partner Hayden. And Mitchell Johnson will make his test debut. Tasmanian quick, Ben Hiflenhaus is the 12th man.

Sri Lanka have yet to confirm their team but Murali will play his first test in Australia in 12 years. The reaction from the crowd will be interesting to say the least.

I’m interested in seeing how Sri Lanka’s pace attack fares. The pace of Malinga and Dilhara should compliment the experience of Vaas. It will be an interesting battle between them and Australia’s top order.

The weather forecast is a few showers for Brisbane but hopefully any rain that eventuates will not linger.

Australia will run over Sri Lanka.

Murali himself has stated that Sri Lanka are not as aggressive as the Indians.

As much as I love test cricket I just can’t get worked up about this test nor the next.

I will wait for the Indians and enjoy the election without labouring the point!!

Attapatu sure let the selectors have it. Too right that Malinga’s exclusion was inexplicable.

On a good batting wicket, the Australian attack has done well. Maybe not a threatening but they have worked hard and been patient.

And good on Stuey MacGill getting this 200th wicket. He has been bowling well with little luck this game.

Yes MacGilla was quite unlucky however he is not part of the clique in the Aussie team.

Aussies win again. Sri Lankans wait in hope that the muppets get it right for the 2nd test.
