With the first sighting of Peter Roebuck in the SMH, bemoaning the lack of substance that is Twenty20 cricket.
Four hundred runs were scored between 6pm and 9.30pm, a tight match unfolded and a good night was had by almost everyone. It all sounds exhilarating but it felt oddly banal.
And in the latest from the Twenty20 tournament in South Africa, the Aussies are not off to a good start. They were beaten by Zimbabwe last night.
Such results are expected in such a commercialised game of tip and run. Not too sure on Roebuck’s criticism as I’ve yet to attend a game. However I firmly in the traditionalist camp. The unfolding of a test match over 5 days with all the drama and changes in fortune is still one of the most satisfying spectacles in sport.

I went to an Aust v England Twenty20 last year and felt the same way as Roers. Bit of a laff but instantly forgotten about and forgettable.
