Nothing like a winner to get losers to see the light.
SOUTH Sydney’s exiled godfather George Piggins sent a stirring message of support to the Rabbitohs last night – declaring they are good enough to win this year’s NRL premiership.
The Redfern club must defeat arch-rivals the Sydney Roosters this Saturday to reach the finals for the first time since the Piggins-coached 1989 Souths team.
Piggins, who walked away from the club after Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court won control last year, also said he believed five-eighth Joe Williams was the key to his club’s push for their first title since 1971.
Of course Piggins has had absolutely nothing to do with the winning attitude, he wouldn’t know how. The fear of course is that he’ll be welcomed back into the fold as some kind of hero when it should always be remembered that he was a stumbling block to renewed success. Next to be seen throwing away the crutches? The bitchy Alan Jones.

Piggins would have loved Souths to death. So far Crowe and Holmes a Court have made the right moves and it is working. The fans are loving it and that is more important than what the Parrot thinks
Souths have a competitive roster and could do some serious damage in the finals.
Except against the Eels.

Finals or not it’s been a great year for the Bunnies, next year is looking good already.

In 2008 Souths finished 14th and lost $5 million off the field – the largest in the club’s 100 year history. And the leagues club has been closed for two years and is comatose and on life support. Crowe and Holmes a Court are failures.
