NRL Round 23 Preview and Tips

August 17th, 2007 by Shaun · 7 Comments

The NRL seemed more like WWE with allegations and counter allegations of grappling and wrestling in the tackles. I’d like to see the end of the grapple tackle myself. It is dangerous and should be wiped from the game. But the controversy is a distraction from the race to the finals and the eight is still unsettled. Manly still has a chance of minor premiership and the race for 8 to 3 is as hot as ever.

And apologies for being late on this again. Hectic times. But on with the show.

Storm v Eels, Friday 7:30pm Olympic Park

Dear Eels, I know that we have had some good times and some rough times but our bond holds forever true. And I have a good feeling tonight that yuse guys will shine and redeem yourselves. Please do as I was depressed for most of the week after the loss to the Sharks and don’t want it to happen again. Also just to spite that traitor Kenny. Love, Shaun

Broncos v Bulldogs, Friday 7:30pm Suncorp Stadium

Sonny Bill slayed the Raiders last week and given injuries, you’d say that the Bulldogs would be to strong for the Broncos. But the Dogs haven’t been consistent this year. They tend to lay down after a big game. Still, the Dogs have the form and will be too strong for the Broncos.

Sharks
v Tigers, Saturday 5:30pm Toyota Park

The Sharks finally grabbed a win and the Tigers have been looking out of sorts. Losing Farah will hurt the Tigers and the Sharks will be wanting to go out with a few more wins. A hard game to pick but I’d say the Sharks. I’ve given up on the Tigers.

Cowboys v Dragons, Saturday 7:30pm Dairy Farmer Stadium

The Cowboys haven’t been impressive, relying on the Thurston/Bowen to get them out of trouble. The Saints though don’t look as threatening as they did a few weeks ago either. Hard to go past the Cowboys at home but a game that the Dragons could win if Thurston and Bowen have an off night.

Raiders v Warriors, Saturday 7:30pm Canberra Stadium

Teams dread the icy trek to the capital but the Warriors may be a team who will cope better then most. They have been in brilliant form. I’d like to see the Warriors lose so that Parra has a buffer in the race for 3 and 4 but not expecting one. The Raiders were woeful last week. Their season is over and they will have their minds on Mad Monday.

Titans v Roosters, Sunday 2:00pm Gold Coast Stadium

When will Freddy’s fearless run end? I’m gonna say this game will end the Rooster’s final hopes. Both teams are still in the hunt so it should be a willing contest. The Gold Coast are a little hot and cold but tend towards the heat when playing at home.

Knights v Panthers, Sunday 3:00pm Energy Australia Stadium

There was no way the Panthers should have lost against the Cowboys but they did. And have been caught in another boozy incident. Gower will no doubt blame the media. The Knights are in dire straits with the reality of life after Joey kicking in. The wooden spoon is at stake so may the soberest team win. A sympathy tip for the Knights.

Rabbitohs v Sea Eagles, Monday 7:30pm Telstra Stadium

Credit to Souths as in previous seasons you would even consider the Bunnies a chance. Manly’s form is white hot so they are deserved favourites. But the Bunnies will give it to them. It won’t be a walk over.

Oh Eels! Why do you insist on breaking my heart?

The composition of the eight should be sorted by the end of the round. Bismarck may have had the gift of foresight in next week’s clash between the Tigers and the Bunnies being a playoff for the 8.

Sorry, I contradicted myself in the second sentence. 26 points will be the cut off leaving the Broncs, Tiger and Bunnies fighting out for the last two spots.

    So sayeth the Oracle…… Ommmmmmmmm.

Given the upset tomorrow night, I don’t give a hoot who wins at Leichhardt as long as :

    1. The S.Eagles down the Warriors
    2. The Raiders (please please please) beat the Broncos.

Oh wel… we can all dream.

If you’re after a prediction : Tigers in, BunBun’s out. Poo!

Hey, I watched South side story last week. Funniest thing I’ve ever seen!

    Quote (R.Crowe esq.):

    * “Dean Widders (dramatic pause) …. I love you”

    Unquote:

Having had a terrible couple of weeks, mainly at the fickle hands of the golden point, I did my best to tip the upsets. True to form, the favourites won all of those and the ‘favourite’ tips were upsets!!!

Season gone. See yous next year!

Souths in the 8 and the minor premiership goes to the Storm. The Tigers v Bunnies clash is going to be a cracker.

To the old dinosaurs lameting Russ and Peter, grow up and rejoin the fold. If Piggins et al were still in charge the Bunnies would be running last.

    Amen brother.

Now I’m even more piddled-off about the ‘accidental’ pre-release of tickets in the Balmain area.

Please, footy Gods, be nice to the BunBuns… they deserve it big time.

    Back to the sparkling wine!!!!!
