NRL round 15 preview and tips

June 22nd, 2007 by Shaun · 17 Comments

I tip by the end of the this round the pack of teams in the middle will start to spread just a little. Manly and the Storm are way ahead but it the Eels and the Tigers turn up, it will be a good chance to start clearing the rest of the field a bit. Some of the pundits claim that even last place is a chance for the 8 given they are only 2 points adrift but the for/against will kill those teams chances. The season is over for the Panthers, Dragons and Roosters. Of those in the eight, I expect Newcastle and the Cowboys to keep slipping down the ladder.

Onto this week’s round.

Sea Eagles v Bulldogs, Friday 7:30pm Brookvale Oval

The Bulldogs have had an unsettled season and the last week with one player charged with DUI and Sonny Bill also fine for public urination (a bit harsh really). The famed Bulldog strength in adversity seems to be failing and they are not as feared as they once were. However, don’t write them off in this game. Even though Brooky is a graveyard for visiting teams, this could be an upset. And that is the way I’m gonna tip.

Warriors v Panthers, Friday 8:00pm Mt Smart Stadium

The Warriors ground out a good win last week but the Panthers did the ol’ snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Very hard to pick as this season the Panthers have a tendency to be awful one game and brilliant the next. Still, the Warriors will have some confidence back after their win and at home they have the tip.

Raiders v Cowboys, Saturday 5:30pm Canberra Stadium

The Cowboys were bushwhacked last week and the reception in Canberra will be very frosty indeed. The Raiders are still up and down but tend to be up at home. Even with Bowen and Thurston there seems to be a fragility about the Cowboys that Canberra will exploit.

Roosters v Eels, Saturday 7:30pm Aussie Stadium

Sorry Greeny. The Eels will just be too good. That is not to say that they will take the Roosters lightly. The Roosters have been finding some hints of form. But then again the Eels are starting to find their way back into good form again. Their backs will give them the edge.

Titans v Knights, Saturday 7:30pm Gold Coast Stadium

The Titans have sneaked into 5th place and deserve favourtism. Sorry Amanda but Newcastle away are a risky proposition. Preston is back for the Titans and with Matt Rogers also find his league legs again, the Titans will get home.

Rabbitohs v Sharks, Sunday 2:00pm Telstra Stadium

Interesting game in we have two teams that defend well but offer little in attack. Given the way this season has been going it will be points galore. Sharks have the form and, Sorry Paul, I’ll have to give it to them in what should be tight affair on form.

Storm
v Dragons, Sunday 3:00pm Olympic Park

Look the Dragons try hard. Let’s give them that at least. But that is about all they have against a rampaging and scary looking Storm a times. Storm to win comfortably.

Broncos v Tigers, Monday 7:00pm Suncorp

The Broncos are doing a steady climb up the ladder. But the Tigers will be keen to stay in the top four and quite a good game could eventuate. Home ground advantage gets the tip.

Thank for all the appologies Shaun….

A thought occurs : Have you tipped against the Eels at all this season?!

I’m going the other way on Bunnies and Tigers.

I’ve still yet to see Souths flogged this year and they can only get better… remember the Sharks at Bluetongue in the pouring rain!

The Tigers impress me every time watch them. Hodgo’s still not back but check out the team… ther’s not a dud amongst them. McDonnell is perrforming well in Hodgos boots and Tuiaki , Whatuira & Highington are all playing out of their skins.

    Be kind gods of Footie.

This would be “Penrith-awful” week, then.

Yeah, GC could very well win, and I’ve been tipping them all season except today. But the Knights have got their heads up, I percieve. Its a fine one though.

Anyhow, I’m off to one of the great footy occasions. Jets vs Parra at Henson.

    Go Jets!!

What a Friday night – 104 points in 2 games and 2 out of 2 so far.

Did I mention that I’ve moved and drank all the beer beforehand just in case.

Give you a call later – I got Hannah a little pressie.

That was a great try saving tackle by Rogers. Lucky I switched back to that game after watching the Eels down the Roosters.

    And the Raiders wuz robbed!

It sounded something, I was listening on the wireless so haven’t seen it.

Am a bit sick of hearing the phrase “the Knights were gallant in defeat.”

Shaun at Henson yesterday M. Hagan and other eels staff sat right behind me in the stand. I’m sure you would have found their constant chatter about all the players very illumating.

    Ooh, what was Hagan saying?

Good win by the Bunnies today. I’d like to see them take this form onwards as it would get them into the top 8.

Can’t be bothered to watch the Storm flog the Dragons.

Dunno, don’t know any of the Parra PL players so none of the names stood out. And it as nothing sensational, nothing you’d leak to Danny Wiedler. Just what the various players were doing well, or not. Just interesting, if you were interested in that kind of thing.

If it weren’t for the one-eyed video ref or the silly rule that says the teams must be even in numbers I’d be 7 from 7 this week!

    Ho Hum.

    Oh……. and Go Tigers!!!!!!!!

Or as Craig Gower refers to him “… a f—ing dribbler” Btw, Weidler reckons Gower is still going overseas.

Newy have signed PL Parra player Zeb Taia for 3 years. Not a bad second rower but we have a few of those at Parra. A better opportunity in Newcastle to cement a regular first grade spot.

6 out 8. Not a bad effort for this season.

The Broncos were red hot tonight. Looking good for the run home. But the poor Tigers. They need some fixing or they may fade down the ladder.
