Poll declared - Australian Rules is Truly Australia’s National Sport

May 24th, 2007 by Five · No Comments

According to a poll of 57 Sideliners, taken over some weeks, and left to run for ages because nobody thought of a better poll!

The question was, ‘the true national winter sport of Australia is …’ The answer ‘Australian Rules, because it’s truly national’, scored 13 votes. Only three Sideliners answered ‘Australian Rules, because the boys are better looking’, and just four said ‘Australian Rules, because it’s not on Channel Nine’. A popular choice was ‘Australian Rules, because it’s the only game that has James Hird in it’, which attracted eight votes, while 12 readers agreed that ‘Five has stacked the poll - no one else could care that much about James Hird’.

Some idiots added answers such as ‘Channel surfing’ (nine votes) and ‘Soccer, because its a better sport (five votes), but these flippant answers will have to be disqualified because of, erm, idiotic flippancy. The three people who insisted Rugby League is truly Australia’s national sport are sad and we must pity them. Thanks goodness nobody mentioned Rugby Union!

For more experiments in Five’s unbiased polling watch the sidebar. And if you think I was really biased, well, I inserted the question that said ‘Five has stacked the poll’. You see, I know what voting types really want.
