Lote Tuqiri has contacted Wallabies selector Michael O’Connor to apologise for his act of stupidity at a NSW Waratahs drinking session – but this time he left his phone off loudspeaker.
Tuqiri was a goose but isn’t it O’Connor who should be apologising?
What on earth is a selector doing trash talking a player to another player anyway?
Surely that is not right, and the greater sin.

Michael O’Connor doesn’t deserve to be given an appology from LT, because he obviously isn’t man enough to speak his own mind to a player of Peter Hewat’s quality. Now we get an idea who is propbaly keeping Peter Hewat out of the Wallabies. Why? We all wonder know how good Hewat is. For my book the time is overdue for the Australian selectors and the press to start focusing on Hewat’s good points instead of trying to find fault with his game. A typically poor Australian attitude… if the Kiwis had him they would have made a national monument to him. Hewat has after all been prolific at scoring points both with his boot and crossing the line in the Super 12 and Super 14 competitions. Even when he was the intercept master in 2005, 2006 the press still doubted his paying ability deeming his serial intercept success as mere flukes. This mistreatment reminds me of the manner by which Matt Bourke was treated after having single handedly brought home the Bacon for the Wallabies. What is it about goal kickers that the selectors and the press don’t like? Do they think it’s easy to kick goals under pressure. They seem to like forwards who kick goals like John Eales or goal kickers from the Brumbies or the Reds, but not the Waratahs. Perhaps they should imagine what it would be like trying to concentrate on kicking a goal when playing for an Aussie side against a Kiwi side in New Zealand… the poor sportmanship of the audience would drown anyone mortals ability to focus. For me there still seems to be too much old school tie in Australian rugby, time they got on with selecting a players for their skills and ability, that’s what we fans who support the game pay to see.
