3 rounds and I’m still excited about this season. Sure, there will be that moment when it sort of becomes part of the normal routine of winter. At the moment I’m looking forward to each weekend. Not just for Parra’s inevitable rise to the top but games like Friday’s big one of Souths against the Bulldogs.
Originally the Broncos/Roosters were slated for the 1st slot but with the resurgent Rabbitohs facing off against the Bulldogs, Sydney viewers would be disappointed with waiting till 10:00pm or there abouts.
As for the pitiful Roosters, a prediction…
Any more losses and Chris Anderson could be the first coaching casualty of the season. Also, with the signing of Mark O’Meley, it begs the questions how the Rooster will fit him under the salary cap? Interesting times at Bondi.
I was mightily impressed with the Raiders on Monday night. They fooled a few punters with their incredible second half effort against the Knights. They do have some great young players but I won’t jump on the Canberra bandwagon just yet. The game against the Eels could be a cracker.
I was going to write a considered piece on the salary cap but time eludes me in the form of a newborn. One point is that instead of a blanket increase in the cap, there should be exemptions (or discount) for players who have been loyal to a club. Players like Johns, Lockyer, Hindmarsh etc should be rewarded for staying at one club. I’d hate to see such players go to England for their swan song season. Such players are invaluable to the game in hark back to a golden age. One club players bring a lot to the game.
Round 4 is intriguing but more on that Friday.

I was bracing myself for a repeat of last year’s shellacking at the hands of the Knights. To my delight, the shoe slipped elegantly onto the other foot!!
I’m expecting an interesting clash against the Eels. The Raiders last few years redefine inconsistency, so I’m not sure what to expect. Canberra’s X-factor is certainly the fact Brett Finch is on the opposing side.

Us Eels fans have been waiting for Finch to fire. He can play but has been woeful this season.
I’m a bit worried about the game. Canberra have been a tough team for us over the years and they were great on Monday. But the Eels are on the up (I tells you its true) and it has the potential to be one of the better games of the round.
