I don’t get League, but I get Souths. It’s because I like history I guess. They are a battlers’ team from a battlers’ area. They wear their colours because they used to get blood all over their green shirts because they had to flog rabbits before the games. They once were mighty - in fact I think they’ve won the mosst premierships ever. Then they went into sad decline because they were a battlers’ club, not a glamour club. They got chucked out of the NRL. They got back in. They hardly ever get off the bottom of the ladder. And I know they are suddenly not a battlers’ team any more, because they are owned by Crowe and Holmes a Court, but I still think it’s just fabulous that they downed the Roosters the other night.
Underdog beats Silvertails. The only aspect of the game of League I understand.
Can’t wait for the AFL season …
By the way, the score was 18-6. Whatever that means.

A great result for Souths but they need to make a season of it. Crowe and Holmes a Court have done a great job at giving Souths a chance.
As great a player and Souths man as he was, George Piggins was trading on past glories when Souths need to be finding new victories. The club is in good hands and the new owners understand very well the tradition that is at the heart of South Sydney. The game needs them to do well this year.
Having said that, Eels to win this weekend.

Briefly:
When speaking of the champions
One stands above the rest
Of glories old and records proud
When often put to test
Of fine traditions, history
That others cannot best
They wear the RED & GREEN
CHORUS
Glory, Glory to South Sydney
Glory, Glory to South Sydney
Glory, Glory to South Sydney
South Sydney Marches On
They mauled the Balmain Tigers
Slew the Dragons from St. George
The Seagulls and the Mounties next
Were crushed with mighty force
They humbled Parramatta
And the Berries in due course
They wear the RED & GREEN
REPEAT CHORUS
They plucked the Western Magpies
Slashed the Newtown bag of blue
The Eastern Suburbs rooster crowed
And then was conquered too
The greatest name in any game
Within South Sydney grew
They wear the RED & GREEN
REPEAT CHORUS (twice - or basically as many times as you like)
Go the Bunnies this Sunday!

[...] Also worth a visit is AFL tragic Five’s take on Rugby League. She may not ‘get’ the code itself, but she ‘gets’ the Bionic Bunnies. [...]

as a born and bred easts girl, i hate the bunnies - as i must - but i always want them in the comp(but not doing particularly well).
they dont deserve a premiership yet. cronulla are the only club supporters’ who ‘deserve’ a premiership.
