It is finally here! The NRL season starts tonight with two games now part of the Friday night coverage as well as a return to Monday night games. Never mind Super Saturday and the Sunday. 4 days of rugby league goodness. Onto the card for Round 1
Storm v Tigers Friday 7:30pm at Olympic Park
The Storm to win this one relatively easily. The Tigers will take time to gel especially in the halves.
Broncos v Cowboys Friday 8:30pm at Suncorp
It will be a close one but I’ll take the Broncos to buck the Cowboys.
Warriors v Eels Saturday 5:30pm at Mt Smart
Eels fans are always wary of the Warriors though the Eels have the form over the past few encounters. It will be a tought, tight contest with the Eels emerging the winners
Sea Eagles v Raiders Saturday 7:30pm at Brookvale
Easy win the to the Sea Eagles. If the Raiders find any form it won’t be until well into the season.
Sharks v Panthers Saturday 7:30pm Toyota Park
This will be a close game. I’ll stay with the home team here.
Knights V Bulldogs Sunday 2:00pm Energy Australia Stadium
Newcastle at home are worth a bet. However the Bulldogs will be hurting after the manner of their exit from the finals. It will be a cracker of a game but I’ll give it to the Bulldogs.
Titans v Dragons Sunday 4:00pm Suncorp Stadium
The new look Dragons and the all new Titans. I like the Titans line up and reckon their first game in the NRL will see them with their first win.
Roosters v Rabbitohs Monday 7:00pm Aussie Stadium
Will the new look Rabbitohs have the goods in this grudge match? I’m saying yes. The Roosters will push hard but the hear says the Bunnies.

I’m liveblogging the Brisbane/North Queensland game, with a special focus on explaining the game to recent immigrants to rugby-playing states who don’t really understand the game.
That’s the position I found myself in when I moved to Brisbane 4 years ago, so I feel like sharing my hard-learned knowledge.

Cool David. If you know in advance which game you are going to live blog let me kn0w.
As for the Eels, that first half was the worst evah! Still plenty game to go so I’m not to worried yet.

[...] It’s NRL season again, and Shaun Cronin previews the season at Sidelined. Shaun also gave his predictions for Round 1. With the benefit of hindsight, you wouldn’t be signing up to follow Shaun’s advice in a tipping competition.  Especially sad about Parra getting flogged by the Kiwis. Where’s Brian Smith again? Oh that’s right, helping the Knights beat the Bulldogs despite losing Johns to a head high tackle from Sonny Bill in the fourth minute of play. And Jason Taylor? Hmm. If I was a Parra fan I’d be demanding a mass culling of the club administration.
