Given that the mighty Eels are playing the Roosters just down the road tomorrow night, you’d think I’ll be going. But alas, I have the final game of the cricket season to play and unlikely to get back in time for kick off.
However I should be home in time to watch the Charity Shield between Souths and St George/Illawarra. The Bunnies have named one of their strongest team in years. The Dragons are entering a reconstruction phase. Gasnier has been moved to 5/8th. I’m dubious whether Gaz will be able to make the switch. His kicking game is unknown and his passing game has revolved around a couple of shimmies before trying to get one to a winger.
The questions about whether Souths will finally be competitive this year and if the new look Dragons will be a force won’t be answered in one game. But it is a tantalising glimpse into how both teams may fare this year.

Being a Bunny of old, I can safely say I was well acquainted with the feeling of disappointment tinged with blind optemism (“… it’s early days yet”) that I felt on leaving Telstra on Saturday night.
Vangana should be given a medal for his second-half try – snatched the ball at full stretch on the side-line,balanced centimetres in play and gently popped it down before taking the flag – marvelous to watch!
Sure a few stand-out players played well (Asotasi, Vangana, Kidwell, Heggarty etc..) but the team left a lot to be desired – particularly Joe Williams who disappointed. I guess they’re still getting used to each other.
Even the beer was bad – at $5.40 a shot you expect a decent brew but we were served flat warm p**s because the bulk pourers were spitting out nothing but froth – there was nearly a riot – get a grip Telstra.
At least the chips were good!
Oh well… it’s early days yet…

Mrs?
I hope that Souths rise again, even if it will only make Russell and Peter Holmes a Court more smug than they already are.
