Gathering storm clouds at Bluetongue Stadium, Gosford 24/02/07

Last night was my first NRL game of the season watching the Sharks against the Rabbitohs at Gosford. The game didn’t reach any great heights especially with the rain that marred the second half. The Sharks played the better wet weather football and deserved to win 22-4. Still, [...]

Earlier this morning (I forgot to watch) St Helens defeated the Brisbane Broncos 18-14 in the World Cup Challenge.
The NRL season is just around the corner. I’m off tonight to see Souths play the Sharks at Bluetongue Stadium at Gosford.

Super 14 Round 4

February 23rd, 2007 by Shaun · No Comments

The fourth round has already begun with the Brumbies going down by a point against the Hurricanes in Wellington (11-10). Also, Stephen Larkham was injured just before half-time but no word on how long he may be sidelined for.
Greg Cowden in today’s SMH reveals that former Wallabies selector Barry Want is frustrated at the [...]

Ok, so it didn’t quite go according to plan.

February 20th, 2007 by Shaun · 3 Comments

So we got thumped for a third time in a row by the Kiwis. And the record for the second highest run chase on limited overs internationals fell after only two days. I’m starting to get a little worried.
The good news is that batting isn’t a problem. Remember that Cilchrist, Ponting, Clarke and Symonds [...]

Can Australia win the World Cup without Lee and Symonds?

February 15th, 2007 by Shaun · 8 Comments

Australia’s World Cup chances have been hit by an injury to Brett Lee. Lee injured himself at training and is awaiting to undergo an MRI test to ascertain the extent of ligament damage.
Lee is one of best one-day bowlers and with the erratic but lethal Shaun Tait, could have formed an imposing opening combination. [...]

NRL pre-season off to its usual start

February 15th, 2007 by Shaun · 8 Comments

Aah, the NRL pre-season is upon us with the now traditional opening drunken scandal of the year involving Penrith’s Craig Gower. It seems though that there are a lot of accusations being thrown around concerning Gower’s behaviour and hard to work out what happened.
I’ll pass judgement on this one till there is more evidence [...]

The end of pro sport?

February 14th, 2007 by Phil · 3 Comments

There was an interesting bit of conjecture posed by David Horton in the Huffington Post about national/international sport having a very dim future due to the twin problems of peak oil and climate change.
I reckon, in the next few years, as a result of caps on emissions and peak oil being reached, that we can [...]

Update on parental quandary

February 12th, 2007 by Five · 10 Comments

Apropos of my previous post, I have gone and signed the boy up to soccer. He very sweetly said that he wanted to play close to home, and assured me that if he didn’t like soccer he would return to AFL [the one true code]. So, how could I resist that logic?
Off I trundled, chequebook [...]

England roars at the end

February 12th, 2007 by Shaun · 2 Comments

It is over, finally the Australian international cricket season is bloody over. As I sweep up the shattered pieces of my Boony doll and divorce the Beefy doll from its batteries to shut it up, I’ll say again I’ve always reckoned that the one-day series tends to drag on a few games to long. While [...]
