The Forgotten Centurion

December 17th, 2006 by Shaun · 1 Comment

Adam Glichrist’s century was the stuff of legend. Micheal Hussey’s ton just reminded everyone of what a talent he is. Which was the theme in the Sunday papers. If you hadn’t had a chance to view the scorecard you’d be forgiven thinking they were the only two centurions. Michael Clarke’s excellent knock of 135 not out was all but forgotten.

Clarke’s resurrection deserves more praise. I’ve been a big fan of Clarke since he first appeared on the fringes of test selection; a promise that was eventually fulfilled. But what makes the measure of a great player is how they respond to adversity. Clarke’s attitude after he was dropped for poor form deserves praise. He went away, made the necessary adjustments to his game and has emerged a better batsman. Still capable of the dashing innings, but now with better judgement, he has gained back his place in Australia’s middle order.

The cruel twist is that is was all due to Shane Watson’s hamstring injury. An injury that he is still having trouble and he is out for the rest of the season. But Clarke has taken his chance and long may he reign in the Australian middle order.

does that mean Shane doesn’t get to break the record for wickets?

Go Gillie – spunkiest member of modern cricket team by country mile, and handy with a bat to boot.
