Clark in. Australia wins the toss and bats.

Australia won the toss and will bat. Clark in for Australia and Ashley Giles has won the spinner’s spot for England.

Interest is high. I just watched the first over from outside the pub downstairs from my office – there was a group of about 30 suits doing the same thing. We actually clapped at the end of the over.

And a big thumbs down to the Poms for not playing Monty. As spineless as us not playing MacGill in England.

I’m happy with the bowling attack and MacGill will get a run soon if Watson comes back into the side.

But England not playing Monty suggests that they are being cautious and they may be their undoing. And wayward bowling if the first few overs are anything to go by.

why would the Poms select Anderson over Mahmoud?

Obviously jones cannot keep to Panesar but Anderson is not fast and cannot bat.
The big M IS fast, can swing the ball both new and old and can bat.

If you are in Brisbane and you can’t afford/get to the game, you should go to the ‘beach’ at South Bank, lie in the pool there and watch the match on the big screen TV.

    Nice…

Discussion point for the weekend. Is Ponting the best since Bradman as he equals Steve Waugh?

Also, major controversy brewing over a new
    English bat design
    .

if one takes out Bradman who according to Z scores only comes around once in ten thousand years, has there been an equal of Ponting?

I’ve taken some photos of the crowd outside the Gabba, and the scene at the ‘beach’ in South Bank where the big screen was set up.

Good stuff there David, like the South Bank pics especially. Mind you there’s a chance of a bloody big sunburn if you got too engrossed.

Eastwood Primary Junior cricket team won their semi-final and now play their final next Friday with my oldest top scoring. He can even play a glance now!

Epping YMCA blues beat the Carlingford whites in the U/10 competition with my 6 year old taking two wickets!!!

Like the burn on my legs and face right now?

So if you do go, remember to slip slop and slap. (I forgot the slop and am stinging a little)

So does anyone have a theory about why Australia didn’t enforce the follow-on?

My guess is that they actively did not want to win in 3 days + 1 1/2 sessions – that for entertainment/crowd pleasing reasons, its important to have the result land on the 5th day if possible.

I always predict that declarations will come earlier than they do, but I reckon Ponting will declare about 45 minutes after tea today, assuming Australia is still in.

    David Jackmanson // Nov 26, 2006 at 10:25 am

So much for that…just declared after 25 minutes of play on day 4…just to let Langer get 100.

    Shaun // Nov 26, 2006 at 8:40 pm

Well Ponting has done his back and in doubt for Adelaide. If Watson is fit I wonder is they will rush him into the side and keep Clarke? Who will bat number 3 if that is the case?

Btw, our side got Laxmaned. Chasing 281, we had ‘em at 6 for 122. The next wicket fell at 260 and we just couldn’t fight out way back (dropped catches didn’t help which is always the story).

Nice pics indeed David. I’ve never seen the South Bank area and it look s a great place to watch the cricket.

Shaun and wrongun, thanks heaps for checking out my photos.

I also like the heat map. One area where I have to praise Channel 9 is that every summer they roll out a new invention to help you understand the game.

On the rare occasions I watch a baseball game in the USA, they don’t seem to have changed their technology very much at all in the last 20 years.

As far as I know MLB in the USA doesn’t use anything like Hawkeye, for instance, which would be really useful for second guessing if a pitch was a ball or a strike.

And there it is…1131 Brisbane time on the fifth day and it’s all over. 1-0 up…

However England made a decent stand in their second innings so showed they can come back from the shell shock of their first.

The Poms should replace Jones with Read. Jones’s batting just isn’t good enough.
Anderson with Panesar. No new ball swing in Adelaide and Hoggers with Mahmoud as he is quick and can reverse swing and is useful late order batsman.

If you examine the record fast bowlers with big hearts take more wickets than spinners!
