Amidst the Fiendish shenanigans of the Tri-Nations is the curious decision for Nine to not televise live the Great Britain v New Zealand games.
International league needs all the help it can get. And consigning games not involving Australia to the wee hours is a disgrace (the GB v NZ game was shown on delay sometime after 11:00pm). We all don’t have Foxtel. Nine doesn’t do this with the cricket one-day series during the summer. I suppose it could be in the contract Nine and the NRL agreed upon.
But given how poorly Nine treat the Storm and league on TV in Melbourne, the continued awarding of Nine rights to televise rugby league seems to be acting against the best interests of the NRL.

International Rugby League? Shaun, there’s no such thing…

It is a bit sick and sorry these days which is behind my gripe against Nine.
I remember when France was a half-decent league side. A competitive Tri-Nations will help and then one day, we will awaken the sleeping rugby league giant that is Estonia!

With Nine having AFL rights for the last few years, AFL has been treated just as badly in Brisbane as League in Melbourne.
Also, as someone who has moved from SA to Brisbane, I think Nine does an appalingly poor job at explaining League to newbies. The commentary is full of in-jokes, references to players from thirty years ago, and so on.
And there is no explanation of the context of stoppages, turnovers and so on. Now that I understand the game, I appreciate how a tiny error can result in a turnover - it adds to the excitment of the game, meaning that skill as well as brute force is required.
But Nine should actively explain this to people watching who don’t get what is going on

It was SBS that showed us how you broadcast cricket.
give them the monopoly on it.

What about the AFl broadcasting model Homer? 4 live games a week!
At least in 2007 there are two NRL games on a Friday night (one on delay) but I do like the idea of 4 hours of Friday footy.
I’d love to see the old 3:00pm Saturday afternoon game resurrected. That was a great on the ABC when I was a just a lad.
